Sorry to be so up-front but there is something that has been bothering me for a long time and I think that everyone at the Café who does cards should be aware of. I'm talking about germs and handling your magician friends decks when you are sessioning.
Now I'm not accusing anyone of anything but most young guys who, like me, are passionate about card magic DO NOT BOTHER TO WASH THEIR HANDS REGULARLY before they handle teir cards. In fact, if youre like me, you grab a deck the first thing when you wake up... Not all magicians have girlfriends..not all magicians wash after spending time in the bathroom..there are SO MANY GERMS and other nasty things on magicians decks that I wuld urge you all to be VERY VERY CAREFUL when asked to shuffle their deck, select a card etc. There are times when I have caught a bug but I didn't eat anything unusual. Then I remembered I had a card session early that day with a friend. I have to say to you all...be very very careful. Sorry for such a long post |

Dexpert. I understand your point but must also point out this following factoid...
You handle money everyday, You handle doors and buttons every day. At work, many people may use the same computer. Many people use ATM's ect. ect. If you are a nail/quick biter or chew pens and so on. You place yourself at higher risk. If you had a dirty childhood, ie. playing in dirt and getting right messy, then your immune system should be adequit to cope with kissing a stranger or licking their hands ( I don't recommend hand licking on strangers. it is just an example) without getting ill. Think, if you buy a packaged snack you handle the wrapper and the food. but who has handled it before you ?

Exactly. There are germs everywhere. I wouldn't worry about picking a card out of someone elses deck. There are a lot more things toworry about then getting germs off a deck of cards. Heck, there are tons of germs and bacteria just living in and on your body.
Don't worry about it.

Cruise: Incorrect. It has been proven that there is only a minute amount more fecal matter on a toothbrush in a bathroom in a toilet than on a toothbrush in a sterile room. The vile stuff is everywhere.
Dexpert: Totally. Plus, everyone likes their cards differently. I hate it when someone handles my cards and they get all sticky. Eww. |

I'm so sick of people like this -
I have been an xray repairman for about 30 years - I crawl all over broken equipment daily - I've had used barium fall all over my face and I shudder to think about the amount fecal/urine/blood I've ingested through the nose and mouth. I've never been sick with anything other than normal colds in all that time Normal common sense and hygiene is all that is required. With people taking extraordinary measures trying to protect themselves from all foreign bodies - There is definitely some lessening of natural defenses and we're seeing people getting sick from the least amount of exposure. Live life and enjoy it - it won't kill you Dave |

So, all you need to do to find a suitable spectator to assist you is to subtly enquire about personal hygiene. That should be easy enough to incorporate into a bit of patter...

And while we're at it can I please ask all Café members to ensure they wash their hands thoroughly before entering the Café. The incidents of DTD ( digitally transmitted deseases ) have increased alarmingly over the past five years and could so easily be prevented by attention to personal hygiene at the keyboard.
