Many years ago, I think Brian Flora showcased an effect called The Lips of Anne Bodenham. The prop alone was worth the price!! I researched this piece many years ago, and discovered that the person who created this effect had many other brilliant pieces worth a bizzarist's look. Then I forgot about it.
Now I am seeking to rediscover these effects and even with online searches I am having difficulty locating any site that sells her works, or a contact site for Mary Tomich. Has anyone had the brains I didn't and bought any of her stuff? And is she still selling these museum quality props? I am dying over here!! Mary Tomich has put her Internet supply, Thaumysta Magic, on hold for a while. She does plan to reactivate it, but has been too busy to do so. I will try to keep people informed if I hear anything important.
Although Brian Flora died a couple of years ago, his wife has continued the company. However, unless there is stock on hand, Mary Tomich is not making anything else at this time.

Thaumysta Magic had some really cool-looking and curious props. I believe it was called the "Museum of Cursed Antiquities." I hope Mary brings back the site soon!

Ditto!
We love Mary's work! I would really love to see The Altar Flame published in a compilation.

We're still waiting for the final issue to come out, and go figure, that's the only issue of the Altar Flame in which I have an effect published. I consider myself lucky to have originals of all issues except 1 (I let my subscription lapse for a few months once). I'm planning on putting up a few of her rare effects for sale on eBay within the next few weeks ... I need to "clean house." Dave Birtwell |

I remember Mary Tomich from several of Docc Hilford's Weerd Weekends. She is a brilliant creator, writer, and performer. Her persona is/was perfect for Weerd/bizarre magick! And all of her products were bargains - with a capital "B!" I do hope she finds her way back into the bizarre mainstream (if that's not an oxymoron, I don't know what is...) soon!

Hi DrNorth,
You can find her effect "The Pyramid of Ptahotep at Hank Lee's site. If you don't have that one, I reccomend checking it out. It is the "gypsy thread" using a clever twist where the magic happens in the spectator's hands. Very elegant props and creative story line. Hope this helps. Phil

Funny story: A friend of mine goes in some kind of magical garage sale. A guy sells the scroll of Masklyn ye mage for 15 € and says:" It was a time when bizarre magic had some kind of success, but no more..."

By 'cool,' do you mean 'popular,' or 'getting a chilly response?'

For some stupid reason I like the fact that Bizarre is hard to find, I mean have you seen some of these street guys with "In your face magic?" When a guy jumps out from behind a trash can and says "Pick a card!" I hope to be wearing my running shoes!
