Not a video, but Buckle's "Principles and Deceptions" might test your mettle, so to speak...

Also not a video or DVD, but Kainoa's "Coins on Edge" and "Cointopia" are also great for advanced coin work. I'll also definitely second any of Reed and Curtis' work.

Michael,
The real question is are you looking for good material or hard stuff to impress other magicians? Having been a "coin guy" for going on twenty-five years now I can tell you that a large amount of the "hard core" coin magic that's out there isn't worth learning because while it's difficult and impressive it's not very magical. If you want to impress people with your juggling skills study D'evo's card work. For magic with coins study Geoff Latta's work (in COINMAGIC and Richard Almanac) and the upcoming book from Jon Townsend for a good understanding of how to construct coin magic that actually fools people. David Roth's books and videos (his original material anyway) are also important references. If you must have a video the recently released LVMI DVD has Curtis Cam, Latta and one of our local guys Robert Stevens on it. Good stuff there for sure. |

My Knockout Coin Magic DVD series contains advanced coin techniques and routines, many still unpublished. The same goes for the Encyclopedia of COin Sleights DVD series, that contain many advanced coin moves (over 100!), unpublished as well. There are many fingertip, retention, and ROPS techniques all challenging and useful for the advanced performer. Good luck!
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

How could I forget about Knockout Coin Magic??? TONS of GREAT stuff on them!
Also as mentioned Coins on edge and Cointopia are EXCELLENT if you have the time to actually work on the material. I just worked on the Edge grip for MONTHS on end till it looked and felt pretty natural.....then I went on to the FIRST routine...... Some serious stuff is out there......

Hi kukram and Ed, thanks for the kind words. A lot of that stuff won't see print until my new book comes out (and don't ask me when, as its a BIG book!) For those who are interested, my COINvention lecture notes are still available, containing new advanced coin routines for the stand up walk around performer. Please contact me if you would like more information, at my e mail, rubinsteindvm@aol.com. Best, Mike

Give how badly he butchers the Downs production on his TV commercial why would anyone purchase a Coin video from Ellusionist?
If you want to learn classic techniques Roth is the man. Dr. Rubinstein, Mr. Stone (from France) and Jay Sankey will round out your education. Once you've mastered that it's time to create your own material. Ditto with the younger Mr. Gallo when he gets his book out. |
