I thought I posted this, but I can't seem to find it now.

My wife has Type 2 diabetes (the one that DOESN'T need insulin injections) and recently had to have a toe amputated. After two weeks in physical rehap (after being promised THREE by the insurance company) She comes home and all is well, except on the 3rd of July, she spikes a fever and the foot starts swelling up. They find infection in the bone which they have to clear out. Also, BOTH knees start to hurt... a LOT! Turns out she has also developed GOUT!

They say God never gives you more than you can handle, but I think God can sometimes VASTLY overestimate our abilities!

So wishes and prayers, people! She needs them... and so do I!

Best wishes and positive energy coming your way,

I had a couple of bouts with gout in my foot. It came and went suddenly. No meds. or explanation, so it can leave suddenly. Here's hoping.

Sending prayers for the operation and recovery to go well.

That's really rough. I remember when my grandma had diabetes complications.
Sending prayers she has a good recovery.

Thank you, everyone. It's turning out the "gout" might actually be infection going up into the knee after all! If antibiotics don't work, we could be talking about losing the leg! As I'm typing tjis, she's in surgery to access the infection!

Seems that she's coming along nicely. She might be coming home tomorrow. The problem HERE now is that she's lost the muscle tone she'd developed over the two weeks of physical therapy, and the insurance company won't pay for more! *sigh*

Definitely ask the docs to help you fight that. Insurance companies suck.

Glad it is going well.

You can do some physical therapy at home with guidance. You can be a great cheerleader for staying active, within reason.

Continued success!

Apparently, they did. I texted her this morning and she told me they were having problems finding bed space in a physical rehab facility. (I thought it might be the insurance) THEN she tells me that the doctor she spoke with implied that my wife was FAKING not being able to walk. (She was so mad, she considered signing herself out and coming home anyway.) So, while digesting that, I get a phone call from a Providence number. Thinking it was the doctor I'd been speaking to concerning her progress (and wondering if it was the same doctor who slandered her) I answered. Turns out it was the rehab center, telling me that she'd been accepted, and they were expecting her later that day. I check with HER, and SHE'S heard NOTHING about it! My daughter went to the hospital to help her gather her effects and get her to the facility. (A different one from the one she'd been in last time) She tells me it's nice, the room is slightly larger and she said the physical therapists seem very dedicated. So, "wishes and prayers" seem to be working people! Thanks.

Visited her this afternoon. It IS a very nice facility. She has her own room. (The OTHER physical rehab place, she had to share with a woman who played Spanish soap operas on a constant basis!) She says the food is alright (a major problem with Rhode Island Hospital) and, for the first time in quite a while, she had a "wound care specialist" exam the amputation that started this whole mess. She says it coming along nicely, and that she'll be along every day to keep up on it. Back in the first set (when the amputation was done) she was sent home with antibiotics that had to be refrigerated and thawed for a half an hour before being used. They also had to have the tubes cleaned out twice. My daughter actually did it perfectly, and I helped with setting everything up before she came down. They have set her up with the same antibiotics now, but she's not coming home with them. They are going to inject her THERE in the physical rehab center for the entire set, which will last until Aug. 20th! Our thought is they want to keep careful track of how she's reacting to the antibiotics. She hasn't started the actual physical therapy yet. I'll keep you informed.

And how is Mrs Ed Rhodes doing?

Also, during times like this it is also rough for the rest of the family. How are you doing? Is the rest of the family fairing well?

Continued prayers.

Thank you for asking. The rest of the family seems to be doing well. They've gone to visit her on days when I couldn't. Yesterday, she had a major low energy day, perhaps due to the odd, muggy weather. Today, she had more energy. She could sit up in her bed and move herself around. She's getting better wound care here than at either of the other places. We are hoping for her to be walking (with support) by the 20th! Me? I'm kind of running on automatic here.

I really enjoyed watching your curbside cups and balls video. Kid’s reactions were great.

Does it perhaps pep you up some, when you do that sort of thing?

I’m wondering if maybe entertainment can be therapeutic for the performer, as well as for the audience.

Just random thoughts from a Cafe stranger. Cheers.

It does, but, free time is either putting the house together, or going to the facility to be with Dotti. Plus, there's still the bladder condition, I can go from "fine" to "find a bathroom, NOW" in two minutes flat. Thanks for the thought, though.

Don't feel bad about your bladder condition. After all, I have it too. I don't know about you, but I have to wake up about 5 times a night to empty myself. Actually the word "empty" should be surrounded by quotes because in Incontinence the bladder only empties partially each time. This Incontinence can be especially exasperating when I go to certain public places but I've gotten used to it.

God will help you in the recovery of your soulmate but it seems that you yourself are doing most of the work. My hat's off to you.
