You've had a rough time but if she's staying there, maybe you can get some sleep. I'm sure you need it.

Hopefully, just a minor setback because she is eating again.

She is SUPPOSED to be coming home tomorrow. THAT'S when we'll put together this Thanksgiving feast we bought Wednesday night. If they keep her another night, We'll cook the food anyway, because I bought the turkey last week to give it time to thaw, and I don't want it going bad.

I'm wondering how a diabetic would navigate Thanksgiving dinner anyway. Carbs = sugar. Seems like Turkey would be OK.

Make sure you understand the testing and what to do if the readings are bad.

Best Wishes to you and your Family, Ed.

I'm diabetic and there's lots of options. Especially nowadays.
Mashed cauliflower, all kinds of meat. Just about anything can be modified. I make green beans glazed with sugar free maple syrup & liquid aminos. I've probably got about a hundred paleo cookbooks.

She's generally very careful. Getting the runs from the chili messed her up and she was fighting that so hard, she forgot to keep track of her sugar. Her diabetes doesn't require insulin... but she can (and as you see, has) gotten into trouble if she lets it get too low!

My kid says, falling out of bed was actually a GOOD thing, because it brought them running. If she'd stayed in bed, passed out, who knows when we would have realized it and called for help. He suggests we have a guardian angel, but one who's a little drunk and sloppy on exactly what he'll do to help!

It's decided that she's coming home on Saturday.

The insulin itself is dangerous if the dosing isn't precise. Glad she doesn't need it. Mine's been in remission since a few months after the diagnosis so luckily I never needed it either.

I'm glad that yours has gone into remission.

I cooked the turkey. Sliced it up. They wanted to watch her for one more day, so, she SHOULD be home tomorrow.

She's home. She's back in her bed. She's happy.

It snowed here Sunday. I walked to the bus stop, slid in a driveway and landed HARD on my left side. Went in to work anyway, couldn't do everything. Monday, it was worse, and I went into the Emergency Room. The staff heard "old man / fell down," and rushed through the procedure! I was in and out in three hours. Prognosis, I'd bruised my ribs, put on a laticaine patch and take muscle relaxers. I was fine the next day, but I felt that I should stay home and help the family prep for an upcoming fumigation. I got quite a bit done, but finally pressed my luck too far and my ribs went from 3-4 level pain to 11! It's 8-9 now if I move the wrong way, but we still have to get this done! (In case you're wondering, Dotti's going to a hotel with her wheelchair on Thursday. We all have to be out of the house Friday by 8, come back at 5. I was planning on going to the library and mall with my laptop. Now, I don't know.

Rib pain can be intense. Seems like pretty much any movement can aggravate it, even just sitting there Breathing.

Yep. At the moment, I can move, but the wrong twist makes it agony! But I NEED to be doing stuff!

Sorry to hear this Ed.

Best wishes in getting your stuff done (and breathing) without getting hurt again. At least you'll have a couple of nights in your own bed before you have to be out for the day.

No. I've been sleeping on the sofa since she came home. There's too much chance of me hitting her bad foot getting in or out of bed. Last night, I slept sitting up in a chair, because it hurts too bad to lay down!

As long as I keep busy, the ribs are only an annoyance. Last night, I woke up at 3:30 to use the bathroom, and it took me at least two minutes to be able to sit up, the pain was so bad. We're getting the apartment fumigated (as I think I mentioned) so, she's in a hotel room until 4:00, and I'm out here at the library, using their wi-fi.

(She's got her daughter and son-in-law with her, they're better at the physical stuff that I would be normally, and certainly not now with the ribs.)

I've got one son (Jeremy) with me, and my other son (Christopher) and my AMAZING daughter (Amber) have to go to work.

Are you saying you have to go to work, Ed?

I hope not.

Like the thread says, wishes and prayers.

I just got out of ICU a couple of hours ago. It looks like I'll be able to be home for Christmas.

Ed, I'm hopeful your family will get some time together as well. Is your pain level improving at all?

I also hope you're feeling better soon, Smithart. As far as I'M concerned, it's going from a 6 to a 2 whenever I breathe too deeply. It's also nagging (1 - 1-1/2) on a regular basis, despite the patch, and the combined Tylenol/Advil treatments. (At the doctor's recommendation, he said they affect different pain receptors and could be taken together.
