She just texted from the hospital. Now they're talking about installing a pacemaker. She's always been terrified of surgery. For this family, 2026 looked at 2025 and said; "Hold my beer!"

OK. Word is, no pacemaker. But they are monitoring her heart rhythms, she's coming home in a few hours.

Nonetheless, she is, to all accounts, a PERFECT "Jewish mother!")

Hi Ed, my point was that, from experience, the Primary care doctor should be the one talking and agreeing with the ER doctors, otherwise you will get different opinions based on the particular symptom of the day when she goes to the ER.
You don't need the name of the doctor, your wife should talk to him and ask him to take the lead. My 2 cents |

My need for his name is to apply at Walmart for what's called "intermittent leave," which would come into effect if I need to leave the store for an emergency. She will NOT acknowledge that such an event will occur, and so, won't give me the information I need.

Is there anyone who could maybe be an intermediary on that? Friend? Counselor? Clergy?

Nope. And if I WERE to do an end run around her wishes, don't think I wouldn't hear about it for the next... forever.

Can you get a different primary care doctor for you?

My primary care doctor is a different person from hers. Otherwise, I would have the name without worrying about it,

Maybe understanding your point of view would help her to make different choices herself.

Good points, critter. That IS in fact the problem, she feels she would be being a burden. Nobody is going to be able to sway her on this.
She seems to be getting better. Trips to the bathroom are becoming commonplace. She's sitting in the living room for hours. So there's that. We have ANOTHER trip out of the house on the 23rd while they fumigate... again! I am personally concerned that the landlords just MIGHT not want to renew our lease next year. I may have to contact Rhode Island Housing and see if there's either a "five bedroom" apartment available, or if we could get two three bedroom apartments adjacent to each other! Again, we have to deal with the fact that she HATES "restricted income housing," but we may have no choice in the matter. We can BARELY manage this place, and any OTHER place is certainly going to be more expensive. You have to pick your battles with Dotti, and this one, I'll stand on.

OK. Updating again. She's actually walking without either the cane (which she doesn't really understand how to use) OR the walker. Granted she needs to lean on the bookcases in the hallway, but she can travel from the end of the hallway to the bathroom with very little trouble.
She's had a couple of trips to the Wound Care Facility at Fatima Hospital. She can get down the stairs just leaning on the banister for support, and only needs me to support her hips on the way back up. I'm still not certain about the landlord's agreeing to renew our lease this spring. But one disaster at a time.

Oh, I've got a full bore, six year old, lying on the floor, kicking and screaming rant brewing up. If I ever type it out, it will be ugly. But I'll warn you ahead of time, and put it in another thread, so you can avoid it if you don't feel like wallowing in it.

OK! A slightly different progress report today. I'd mentioned that she passed out and fell out of bed a few weeks ago. One of the problems was that she landed on her thumb and bruised it significantly. (This was worrying to me, as circulation is very trick among diabetics. That's why she lost the toe.) She hadn't been able to handle the controller for her X-box for some time. I came home tonight to find her, in her wheelchair, playing "Red Dead Redemption II" on the console! She mentioned that the thumb was still sore, but she could handle the controller with it.
We take our victories where we can, and I'm happy for her that she made this achievement!
