I have been out of the profession for a good long while, but I work at a psychiatric hospital and have done a few hospital wide shows for the patients and staff. I don't perform for money anymore (anxiety disorder that only raises it's ugly head if there's money on the line.)
But I have been doing shows again, and I often do close up for the patients. And I've found myself impulse buying tricks again, which I haven't done in about fifteen years. To cut the story short, I'm looking for magic that can fit with a therapeutic presentation. Maybe about becoming whole, recovering what was lost, something related to the shared community of the hospital. A friend of mine once had a trick, I think it was called miracle puzzle. It was one of those puzzles with a variety of shapes stuck to a board formed in a square with a frame around it and then the pieces are reassembled to fit the extra piece while still adding the frame around the shapes. I have a great presentation for it. What little shopping around I've done was for a sold out item that cost over 600 dollars. Now, because I'm not doing shows for money anymore I can't afford to buy a pre-made prop. I don't even need it to be sophisticated, preferably with all the pieces in different colors and shapes. If anyone can guide me to a cheap alternative or perhaps building instructions. That's one I'm seeking in particular but I'm looking for something inspiring as a send off at the end of the show. I might be able to get the hospital to pay for supplies and the maintenance shop has a woodworking station. But any meaningful presentation for a trick would be appreciated. Not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum. Please move if in the wrong place.
