Hi all,
I've been on the fence about adding hopping half to my close up set for about a year now. I keep looking at them and comparing sets, etc. The main thing that puts me off is the reset. Do any of you have success with resetting while adding them to your pocket? If I can be sure that it's possible to do I'll get a set for sure. I really like the idea of using a quiver for the final reveal of them hopping back to the coin purse, so I'll be including that as well. I'm just stuck on the pocket reset part of it. Thanks in advance! Levi- |

I prefer to perform Short Hop instead which allows me to have the coins examined at the beginning and has the bonus of an instant rest.

With a little arts and crafts, some duct tape and a piece of cardboard you can make a pocket sized double sided card with pouches for the coin sets.just add the coins to the correct pouch facing the correct way in your pocket.

Thank you. I was wondering about trying something like this.

Hopping Chips Trick by N2G. I have several sets, but this along with a quiver, has become my favorite - using their stickers on the inside. I had never considered some arts and crafts to help rebuilding them as you use them. What a great idea. Any chance of a picture of the finished project?

This is a shameless plug, but if you're looking for a version that doesn't use the typical gaff, here is my work on the plot: https://youtu.be/tgTJhp6L9mU?si=WFZiQtKvOlwDj9QZ

I don’tknow when the “I really am confused by the magic” style of performance came from, but it sure is popular. (And no it was not Cardini.)

I never liked the traditional guessing game presentation for it. |

So turning it into somehow you are confused and such is a solution?
OK.

It’s a solution that plays well for me with where it fit in a strolling set. That doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. I’m not trying to say it’s an “end all, be all” thing.
The main goal for me was to eliminate the sucker element on the audience. I’m certainly open to constructive feedback. |

I’m just curious because I’ve seen this presentation of “ I really don’t understand” swell in popularity recently. Heck I thought it was silly when Harry Lorrayne did it decades ago. As a plot device it takes me out of an effect.
Yes the challenge element is also fraught with peril as well. I’ve agree it is not great and I’d try to eliminate it also. I was not being critical and I’m sorry it came off that way. I just was wondering why this is such a popular plot device lately? I mean you can do the exact same thing with declarative statements like, “Watch as they switch places”. Then they are with you and not trying to register your confusion. Have them burning your hands because the CAN. Really build anticipation instead of you being confused. The last part they expect a transposition and get a switch. Burning your hands it registers as even a greater surprise. Build engagement and encourage it, then manipulate it. Or not. Either is fine. You are in control of the ride they are on. Make it a good one.

No worries, Danny. I didn’t think you were being critical. Honestly, I appreciate the discussion.
I appreciate the feedback. I was always aware of the burnable aspect, but never thought to exploit that in this. Those were all great points you made. Thanks for giving your thoughts. I’m going to start working on that and see how it feels. Thanks again. |

When it is burnable, make them watch. It’ll take the heat off moments that are not as much burnable. Pretty nice rule of thumb.
