For my gigs at Newport on the Levee, I wanted to put up a display of handcuffs and shackles, yet wanted to keep the display board as light as I could to make lugging it to the site easier.
What I settled on was affixing a large, light dry marker board to an aluminum easel with tie-wraps. I placed casters on the front legs of the easel for easy transportation. I drilled holes in the board (with peel-and-stick gummed reinforcements on the drill holes for neatness) to affix the board to the easel, and the cuffs to the board, using the tie-wraps. The final touch was to print out descriptive labels for the board on peel-and-stick label stock. The end result is neat and sturdy, yet reasonably light and transportable. Still, I only recommend this for a venue where you don't have to walk too terribly far from your car. Steve

Steve I haven't been to Levee in awhile what other acts are currently working the levee, I think last time I was there the Ickle pickle bros. were there last time I talked to them they left due to some artistic differences with management, something about their act not family enough, but I thought it was great fun that had not one word of vulgarity, no sexual innuendo & all my kids loved them (ages 5-12). I hope your hats are strong.

The problems the Pickle Bros had with mgt. was over some of their sideshow tricks. The management has banned fire in any form and the bed of nails. One of the bros. still performs sword swallowing, though.
I'm told a magician had a live rabbit in the act that kids loved to pet, but management soon banned the rabbit (I guess they thought it might bite a kid). When I first auditioned, it was to do mentalism, but they then informed me that they didn't want anything "psychic" there (possibly fear of pickets from the fundamentalist community?) They gave me the okay on doing escapes, so I perform escapes and rope magic. The friend who tipped me off about Newport on the Levee is Shawn Dion, one of four magicians that I know of working the levee. I have also seen jugglers, stilt-walking baloon animal sculptors, musicians and belly dancers. Steve
