I only discovered the other day that the 1952 Stage Hypnotism Act was updated with regulations in 1996. Apparently adult stage hypnosis shows in the UK during the 1990s had caused controversy due to nudity which the 1996 regulations effectively banned.

When I did my stage hypnosis training we covered the 1952 Act but the 1996 regulations weren't mentioned. Unfortunately, I only got into stage hypnosis in the 2000s. I'd seen a really boring show in the 1980s which seemed to be fake and role play so the 90s shows passed me by as I wasn't interested in anything fake. It was only when I saw a great show in 2004 (my second stage hypnosis show) that I realised it was real (if the performer is competent) and I've had an interest in it since.

I've never been able to find out what the adult shows of the 90s were like prior to the 1996 regulations. All I've gotten is they were "over the top", extreme and boundary pushing. I recently chatted to a couple of people on another forum who'd been volunteers in those shows. Alas they remember nothing of the actual show until they woke up back in their seat in the audience without their clothes.

I have been able to wrangle some interesting clues out of ChatGPT on some of the routines and how the induction was done to prepare for the adult nature of the routines but ChatGPT refuses to divulge sources due to "moderation".

Is there anyone here willing to discuss what was so different about the adult 90s shows? As I didn't see them I've had very conflicting reports about what happened. I know this is a controversial topic and some people may not want it discussed. I'm happy for people to message me about it privately. Thanks.
