Millar, you make me confusing now. Do you mean if client do not speak you may can not write any thing down? And do you have to tell cilent why you are writing when he is talking or just write.
From the introduction of the history of this trick seems very good, your comments make me hestitate buying it now. |

Max88,
The client must tell you her questions and all the details that you appear to know and write on the cards. Millard |

Millard, if he tell you all detail so that's not prediction, it is recording. Or I miss some part in the whole procedure? Could you give a live sample say if you perform on stage with one to one, how the whole procedure will looks like?

Max88,
I get the feeling that you have not studied the basic works in the field of mentalism. Please read Corinda's 13 Steps and you will have the answers to your questions. Millard |

I wont go into details but trust me on this, there are reasons why you are highly likely to kick yourself over that statement once' you're familiar with everything going on with the RT bit. For reasons I can't begin to understand myself... I will conceed to some degree and side with Millard... RT is a "trick" that hosts close kinship to things like the Mental Epic or other 3-way predictions. However, I still stand on the fact that I and others have used it in Reading type situations and done very well with it (and I'm rather surprised Millard didn't clock me on the fact that I admitted to using a trick for some Reading sessions ... it's not something I'm known to do.) Though it sounds like another bit of self-promotion I'll have to add to your comment about the PT book... RT is a great example as to why I have priced those things so low... as much as I respect Docc I feel that he is like many others that are charging premium rates for nominal info. PT charges a nominal fee for membership and gives members a great price on lots of info.

Gee, Craig, I did not want to bring up the ethics of how you and I do our readings for real -- most of the time!

Come-on Millard!
Everyone here knows we cheat... we use our natural intuition vs. slight of hand

Craig,
I like this new to me definition of cheating -- using our intuition! Thanks, Millard |

I think this thread has evolved from describing RT as something fantastic: Nothing is written down, yet you can answer the spectator´s questions, to something that seems to be a joke: The spectator tells you the questions, and you write them down.
I don´t know what to believe anymore, but it should be illegal to use descriptions that mislead the buyers of magic material. Mikael |

My copy of the Richey Technique arrived in the mail today...
It didn't take me too long to read through it, but anyone who dismisses it as simply a "magic trick" is missing the point, in my humble opinion. Yes... it's basically a 'technique' (just as it says)... a way to add a particular handling to your existing reading practice, that will serve to distinguish you from the other readers out there. Again, I think it would play best as an automatic writing method. I especially like the tip to use the third question as a 'prediction' to be opened several days later. In fact, that's how I would probably present it... As a coda to a normal reading. After covering everything that's going on in the querent's life at present, I would have them ask three questions about the future. Using RT, I would of course, get impressions of the answers before the questions were asked. I would then seal the predictions in the envelopes, and write dates on them, instructing the querent not to open the envelopes until that date. As described in the booklet, what a great way to keep your name in the querent's mind for several months after the initial reading.

Thanks again to all those who replied to my original post.
I have read with interest the various views on this subject. I have since bought this on the recomendation of a friend who does use it for readings in the real world. Can I just say the information in this booklet is just what I have been looking for, I have already come up with a few idea's and twists on handling which will suit my style. One thing I would say though is please don't underestimate it's use by turning it into a simple mental magic trick. Nuff said Scott |

Let me add to the mix, I dug through, the mountains of stuff I've recieved and never used and found a copy of the Ritchey thing. Rereading, helped me remember why it was in the never used category.
First . it didn't make sense to me why if some one came for a readong, I would write something, seal it in an envelope, ask for their question, repeat two more times. It's been said over and over, the reading client isn't concerned with questions but answers. They have no objection to telling you the questions. As I say in one of my tapes, when some one asked me to read their mind, i'm a psychic not a mind reader from Ford |

It doesn't happen often, granted... but what happens when you do a reading for the occasional "tough customer"?
You know the one I'm talking about... they're the ones who want a little extra "proof" of your ability. When you ask them if they have a specific question or prefer a general reading, simply look at you and say, "You're the psychic; you tell me." Okay... there are ways to deal with this type of client that don't use the type of trickery employed in the Richey Technique, but what if you knew that this client was a prominent individual or a member of the fourth estate? If you wanted to do something that they are certain to talk about, then I would use the Richey technique. Especially if you have good reason to suspect that they are going to ask questions about the future. Explain that due to certain circumstances, the answers to their questions cannot be revealed immediately, but you will seal the answers in envelopes that are to be opened on sequential dates (or whatever). Of course, there's nothing you can do to prevent them from opening the envelopes prematurely (and you might allude to the possibility in one of the three predictions). But if there's a chance that they will follow your instructions, imagine the impact you will have! It is worth taking the chance? That will be up to you to decide...

The consequences for a reader of getting caught far outweigh the benefits gained by using mechanical magic.
