Hi everyone,

I’m James Anthony, a working magician in the UK, and I’ve spent the last few years juggling enquiries, contracts, deposits, invoices, follow-ups and event details across different systems.

I could never find a CRM that felt properly built around the way magicians actually work, so I created PerformerDesk.

It’s a CRM for magicians designed to manage the full booking journey, from the first enquiry through to contracts, payments, automated emails and the final performance.

I’m extremely active in developing it and have already added a lot of features suggested by beta testers. I tend to implement useful improvements quickly, so I’d genuinely value feedback from other working magicians about what is missing, what could be simpler, or what would make it more useful in the real world.

You can see it here:

PerformerDesk CRM for Magicians

You can try PerformerDesk completely free for 30 days in Expert Mode, with access to all the main features. I’d genuinely appreciate honest, practical feedback from performers who deal with bookings regularly, and I’ll continue implementing useful improvements as quickly as possible.

Thanks,
James Anthony

Best of luck wit this. One thought if you are targeting U.S. magicians, is we do not use the word "enquiries" but rather "inquiries." If you are targeting U.S. clients you really should speak their language, otherwise it may be seen as something only or more for British only.

I get that magic remains more prevalent in Europe and seems to have taken over the Cafe as far as participating members because of this, but just something to keep in mind from a business perspective.

Worse yet it might be seen as a typo. Many judge quality and make buying decisions based on things like that.

Obviously it is NOT a typo at all. There are those who may but who have trouble thinking in a worldwide mindset. It could be the absolute best product ever, and once they perceive an issue they are done.

I am in no way agreeing with this concept. I just know it exists.

If this solves a major issue for you then I hope you have grand success.

Thanks - Already added 6 languages to the system - but definitely need to figure out a way the USA audience doesn't see it as a mistake.

Perhaps if it detects a USA ip then swap all words over Smile

I have no idea if it is a problem or not. I just think it would be a shame to lose sales before having a real opportunity to make them.

Could you and everyone in the USA do me a huge favour? Check out performerdesk.com and performerdesk.com/for/magicians and let me know if it says "Inquiries"?

It should now detect the USA and change the spelling ????.

Contact Relationship Management. It is usually a system (nowadays often software) to operate your leads, prospects and clients, contacts with them, notes, next steps, confirmations, followups, etc.

Hubspot is a CRM - if you want a real world example.

I'd love to hear from the OP on what was so complicated about running his business.

Hi James. I have some questions. Your app hasn't been verified by Google to access my Google calendar, etc, and I'm concerned about what info you would have access to and can modify, please let us know. I use Square to accept credit cards, not sure if I want to switch to Stripe or if I would want to use 2 different banks, and I don't know what the fees for Stripe are via your system. I also accept checks and Venmo, and those don't appear as options. I usually don't request deposits, but sometimes I do, so I don't know how that would work. And when I do request deposits, sometimes I'm booked days in advance of the event, sometimes over a year, so setting a due date required for deposit payment has to be different for each client. Same with balance due, I usually require payment at event, but sometimes clients need to send payment later. I almost never send out contracts, so I don't know if I can easily automaticly skip that part. For auto replys, I know I don't have to use that, but if I did, I'm concerned it might send out auto replys with info to people I've already been in touch with, either through email, phone or text. I get initially contacted via a website form, and also directly via email, text and phone.

Hey Dan, what are you hoping this CRM can do for your business? What is the problem you are wanting it to solve?

Perhaps some of us can recommend some solutions that will work better for you. Sqaure has an invoicing software built into it - have you ever used that for example?

I'd like a CRM that is very customizable. I do use Square for invoices for clients that want to use a card as deposit or on location with my phone for balances. But I also take checks, lots of private clients use Venmo, some use cash, and once in a blue moon they want to use Zelle or Paypal. I want to create invoices for people who will pay by check or direct deposit, who book multiple days, etc. I need to keep track of who has paid, who hasn't. Who has contacted me but hasn't decided yet, or isn't sure of the time yet, who has booked but hasn't given me all the info I need yet, etc. Adresses, phone #'s, event details, what they want me to do at the gig (show, strolling, caricatures). Also a =send out confirmation emails automaticly and info for the clients about when I arrive, what I need from them, etc. And I do all kinds of gigs for all kinds of clients and also caricature drawing. So it gets a bit complicated. I tried a CRM for magicians a while ago, but didn't like it, it just didn't have enough features and not customizable enough, and was too time consuming and clunky to use for my liking.

Hey Dan - Great to hear from you. We are in the process of submitting to Google to get verified but it's only one way so if you update a gig to complete in the PerformerDesk calendar it updates that status in Google calendar.

1. it has access to calendar.events -- read/write events only. This lets PerformerDesk create, update, and delete calendar events for their gigs. It cannot access contacts, files, Gmail, or anything else.
2. calendar.readonly -- read-only calendar list. This is only used to let the user pick which calendar to sync to (e.g., "Work" vs "Personal"). It cannot modify calendar settings.
3. userinfo.email + openid -- confirms which Google account is being connected. No password or account access.

What it cannot do:

Cannot read or send emails
Cannot access Google Drive, Contacts, Photos, or any other Google service
Cannot share or modify their calendar with other people
Cannot access any account settings or billing
Cannot delete their calendar
Why the "unverified" warning appears:

Google shows this warning for any app that hasn't gone through their formal verification process (which costs time and money, and is mainly designed for apps with thousands of users). It doesn't mean the app is unsafe -- it means Google hasn't reviewed it yet. Users can click "Advanced" then "Go to PerformerDesk (unsafe)" to proceed. The word "unsafe" is Google's generic label for all unverified apps, not a reflection of what the app actually does.

The user can revoke access at any time from myaccount.google.com/permissions.

-------------------

I hope this answers some of your main questions and hesitations.

- You can easily skip the sending invoice option.
- You can easily just set it up to be one payment either before or on the day on a per event basis.
- Our form builder is so easy and looks incredible on any site.

The best way is to sign up to the demo 30 days for free - It has a wizard at the beginning which walks you through the setup. see www.performerdesk.com.

We have a full help area with videos and more being added and personal contact with myself. Always happy to chat via zoom and help you get setup.

Our goal was simplicity and a flow that makes sense - so you can reply to enquiries faster - lose less gigs and focus on your entertainment.

I am also adding features on request for professionals so this is an ever growing project.

All the best
Anthony

Dan - this may be an overly simple solution but I wonder if you could accomplish this by setting up multiple mailboxes in your e-mail? I think that along with Square and Square invoices should be able to solve almost everything. You'd just have a ready made invoice ready to send for those who want to pay with Cash, etc.

Give me a proper lead sheet and a pen as it has never let me down. The part most are missing is the discipline, which is why some want to use tech or, more as a crutch. But that's just me.
