I’ve recently discovered Jay Sankey. Some people like him and others do not care for his style of magic but Jay seems to be a creative and innovated magician.
What are the best Jay Sankey DVDs to buy?

It depends on your interests.
The 3 DVD set of The Best of Jay Sankey is a good place to start, because it has a little of everything. Be warned, however, there is a lot of overlap in his products. |

I only have the 3 Volume Set, of "The Very Best Of Jay Sankey", and Sankeytized I, and II. I have to say (read my reviews below), the "The Very Best Of Jay Sankey", are the videos to get. I rated them all a 9. Just my Humble Opinion, Ed, (Eddini).

Does anyone know of a source for selling used tapes, books, and DVD's on magic? I have quite a collection that I no longer use and would like to find a market for selling or trading them.

There is a forum on the magic Café that was developed for just that purpose. you can sale, trade, or buy, used dvd's, tapes, books, or even trick effects. The only catch is that you need to make 50 post before you can use it. but now back on topic, I only have the very best of jay sankey vol. 2, and I love it. His canadian humor is definatley an acquired taste, but once you get past that his effects are solid. I was fooled more than once, the only thing holding me back from picking up more of his tapes is the possiblity of overlap. I would also recomend reading the post by eddini, his reviews are very thourogh, and should give you a good idea of what can be expected |

Hi weepinwil.
I'm not trying to be mean or anything like that weepinwil but this topic is The Best Jay Sankey DVDs. I see that you are a new user. I hope that you are just selling things that you do not want and are not quitting magic. You can sell your magic stuff here at the Magic Café. Go to the Magic Café main index and scroll down to the Let's make a magic deal! section. In that section you will find other sections for different items like books, tapes, etc. The DVD & video's for sale or trade... section for example is were you want to post your DVDs for sale. Hope this helps.

Thanks tylerdurden.
I'll do a search and try to find the post by eddini and his reviews. Jay has a lot of DVDs out and I'm not sure which ones are the best to buy.

Eddini's reviews are, IMO, top shelf! Thanks again, for those, Ed!
Also, I wanted to add...Sankey's "Three Ring Circus", and "Paperclipped!" have extra material on them I found extremely valuable...I don't know if it's repeat stuff or not, but I hope ya don't miss out on those! I also hear he has some extra stuff on the Magus Capsule DVD...but have not seen that one yet! Cheers! Doug |

Would it be worth getting the Very Best Of Jay Sankey volume 3 if I already have revolutionary coin magic? I know there is a lot of overlap there. The main reason I want TVBOJS is for paperclipped. I already know the method just from watching, but don't know the exact handling. Would I be better off buying TVBO Jay Sankey, or Paperclipped. From what I've read, it seems like the bonus effects on paperclipped are just other effects you can do with the same "move." Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The Revolutionary Coin Magic DVD was great....it's a little advanced but there's some good stuff there. Sankey's humor grates on me a bit from time to time though.

The title should be changed to 'The Best Jay Sankey DvD', because there's really only 1, and that's Revolutionary Coin Magic. All the others can be thrown into the fire when your low on firewood this winter

Dann-
"Paperclipped" (or the basic moves) is also taught on Sankey's dvd "22 Blows to the Head," which I think is a good value. Hope this helps. Cheers, Tiki |

22 Blows to the Head.
I would, however contest that there is in REALITY very little pportunity to perform what could actually be termed "close-up" magic.

Does it have to be a DVD? Don't overlook his book "Sankey Unleashed" by Jon Racherbaumer...80+ effects for around $32 shipped from Penguin (if you know their 10% repeat customer discount code).

Now I'm thoroughly confused and undecided. I just want to learn the handling for paperclipped really. So, is this effect taught in Sankey Unleashed? I don't know if mentalism is my thing, although I have heard a lot about 22 blows to the head. As far as paperclipped, the effects taught in the Paperclipped DVD, are just other effects utilizing the same move correct? I'll do more research. Thanks for the help

Stanmaple:
There are really two 'moves' in Paperclipped. The other routines on the Paperclipped video/DVD all use one or both of those moves. Except for the *bonus* effects on the DVD (I think there are five or six) which are all playing card effects which don't use either of those two moves. I think this routine is now taught in Very Best of vol 3 (vid/DVD) Paperclipped (vid/DVD) 100% Sankey (book) For me, if it's Paperclipped your most interested in get the Paperclipped DVD. Not such good value as the rest maybe but it's got the depth and the psychology. Very Best vol 3 is also very very good. I think it has 12 or 13 routines and I can only think of two that are on RCM and there are some very good routines on there (like the Card to Pocket). Don't discount this just because you have RCM, but the Paperclipped explanation is not as detailed as the Paperclipped DVD. 100% Sankey is probably the best value, if you find learning from books easy. Some people prefer books but I like videos (especially where Sankey is concerned because his material is so visual). I have no idea if Paperclipped is in Unleashed or not. I hope that's of some help.
It was a good battle, and they nearly won.

I think I'll probably go for the best of Jay Vol. 3. That sounds like the best value. Thanks for the help.

I enjoyed the tapes he put out for the US Toy Company. They aren't DVDs, but there's some great stuff on those tapes.

His Best Of series is really the best place to start. Personally though, I enjoy the Sankeytized set the most for their intimate quality, range of material, and amount of ideas.
