I have recently been working on this effect and I'm having difficulty. The cane as it opens often gets caught on the fire torch gimmick and doesn't open properly. The cane is a silver appearing cane from the Paul Daniels magic shop and the fire torch gimmick from International Magic, both in the uk. The cane is starting to get a lot of dents along the top edge from where in bangs in to the bottom edge of the wick container on the torch. Has anyone else had this problem? What is the solution? Is it less likely to happen with other makes of cane/fire gimmicks? I don't mind spending more money if I can be sure this won't keep happening.
Thanks, Phil |

It sounds like the torch is too big for the cane. The torch should be about half the length of the cane and the flame reservoir should be close to the same width of the torch handle. Try to avoid balled up wadding at the flame end.
If the above aren't the problem give the cane a slow twirl and the flame should extinguish. Lastly, the cane could be wrong for the trick. Best Wishes, Kregg
