Again, I agree. One sitution where you could set up the circumstances as well as the effect in advance would be at a small house party as I mentioned. Some "tools" have very limited use, but when they fit the situation, are a great tool to use.

Most homeowners I know own a ladder.
In any event, it wasn't my intent to get into a tangential discussion. The original question was, "What's the best Signed Card Trick?" To stay directly on topic, I'll provide my answer to that question, and my answer is, "There's no such thing as best." I honestly have no idea why so many posters ask this question. Even if the question was asked in a way that could be answered, like, "What's your favorite trick with a signed card?" my answer as well as everyone else's wouldn't help the poster much in my opinion. It's somewhat like someone asking everyone what their favorite flavor of ice cream is in an effort to discover a flavor he might like. Larry |

I agree with a few here and will add that "You Signed Card," by Bro. Hamman is great. It is fairly easy to do and gets grear reactions. I use Hamman's original handling from the Kaufman book.

I do two signed card tricks. They are both extremely strong. One is from Scott Guinn. I use the aces rather than the queens.
1) The signed card travels from in between the black aces to inbetween the red aces. It kills. I follow this effect with Tommy Wonder's ambitious card to ring box. That is the most powerful card trick I do. No one has mentioned tommy Wonder's ringbox. It is magical perfection in my opinion. Jim I also like Red Hot Momma's Lips but I don't do it I think because I havn't bothered figuring out how to bring in the red card and I don't want to open with that effect.

A couple of wise men have already pointed this out.
If you want to warp your specs mind...if you want to leave a permanent souveneir...if you want your spec to tell stories about you for the rest of his or her life... Then you must do the signed card to ceiling. As magicians, we love stuff like paperclipped by Sankey and other clever ruses. But a spectator will love the card on his ceiling more than anything. The second choice would be card from mouth, but as amazing as that is, it dosen't TOUCH card on ceiling IMHO. This is from experience talking. I'm not a card magician, I'm a mentalist. But I can't stop this one, it's one of the best things you can do. Especially with a high ceiling. Trust me, your spec will never remove the card because they love telling the story about how you came over, someone chose a card, and it ended up on the ceiling. I don't do "magic tricks" anymore, except for this one. DM

I don't have the skill yet for Paperclipped, but I can do the following tricks and enjoy them very much:
- Tattoo You (John Bannon, Smoke & Mirrors) - Torched & Restored (Braun) - A Magic Lesson (David Regal, Constant Fooling Vol. 2) The last one is a funny little performance piece that I've never really seen mentioned on this board. It begins as an explanation of a "Card to Pocket" trick and ends with the words "Your Signature" morphing into a spectator's actual signature. -Dave |

I would have to agree with Mustang - Anniversary Waltz is where it's at for me. Great effect and if you do it right, people really think they saw two separate cards.

I got someone to put the signed card on the other side of a side window (in a division between rooms), while I was distracting the guests (a small group). I then did 52 pick-up at the window, and it worked! Problem is, it was probably seen (but not understood) by others, but I wasn't performing for them. I doubt I would get away with this again, or dare to. Just something that worked, on the spur of the moment, and it was a long time ago...nice to reminisce. |

Of course its impossible to know which is the best. Purely Subjective. Some of the strongest I've encountered are The Signed Card by Hamman, Tattoo You by Bannon, 51 Cards to Pocket by Williamson, Signature Effect by Ortiz, Psychological Fusion by Kurtz, Airmail Card by Swain.
