On several occasions I have seen several acts where they have been surrouned or semi-surounded by audiences and had at least 5 costume changes with little or no cover. Performer is dressed in a black tux, assistant is wearing a red costume wraps in a purple piece of material unwraps, now she sin the same color ( purple) this goes on for a few more times at the end he steps into a hoop she lifts the hoop up still seeing his hands and drops it now his in a white tux, he grabs a bag of metallic confetti and throws it up over her and as it falls shes now wearing a white full length gown with sequins, very pretty, can someone tell me where I might be able to get the instructions or the effect or who to contact for this? I would appreciate it.

There isn't a great deal of material around regarding costume changes. There is this book/vid: http://www.hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/?hn=1
Rumours were Kevin James was releasing a book on costume changes, but that was several years ago and I haven't head since. Best of luck, let us know how you get on with your search. |

There has been a discussion here somewhere regarding costume changes. Can't remember where.
A German(?) book came into picture. A really informative book but I can't read German. I hope it will be translated in the future. I have the Instant Magic Costume Changes by Monica "Monique" Monros, but the designs are mostly for females. Try to search for Arturo Brachetti's work. |

Hi!
I did a little research and found the German book "Quickchange" from Sven Schoppenhauer this could be the book that rmoraleta was talking about. I could help if you need anything translated. Patrick Thomas |

I know a duo in the US called Jay and Lee and they use a quick change in their act.

I was in Branson a few months ago and saw an act on the show boat Branson Belle.
They were amazing and some were so fast and so clean, there were audible gasps coming from the crowd. Does anyone know who this couple is? |

I saw them on the Showboat Branson Belle last week. They are Sean-Paul and Juliane. Maybe they were having a bad day the day I was there but I was quite unimpressed by their show. It seemed that many of their props did not work properly in the show I saw, namely the appearing fans. I truly don't think it has any bearing on the skill or talent of either of them, we all have days when props fail and our fingers don't work as they should. I will be going back later this year and plan to catch thier act again. They also perform in the evenings at Celebration City in Branson. Jim |

One of the most well-known couples are David and Dania from Russia. They were recently on an episode of Cirque De Soleil's Solstrum which featured about a 4 min. routine with about 8 changes or more. I can't recall the exact number.
They also appeared at a SAM convention about 4 or 5 years ago and received an amazing standing ovation. Their act is known as Transformations. If you have the opportunity to see them do not pass it up! They are the true masters of the quick change. Magically yours, Matt |

Jim,
I forgot that WAS Sean-Paul and Juliane. I just read about them in Magic Magazine. It didn't mention anything about their Quick Change. Have you seen them at Celebration City? When I was there I saw every magic show in town; my favorites were the Hamners, Gleasons, and Sean-Paul and Juliane. Sean-Paul was hands down the funniest magician in Branson. Greg Gleason has the best slight of hand, Dave Hamner has the best original illusion, and I was NOT impressed with the others, but maybe that was just me. |

I did not go to Celebration City during this trip to Branson but, as I only live about 1.5 hours from there, I am sure I will be back again before the season is over. I might just go see their show at Celebration City. I have seen some of the other performers in Branson, some impressive some not, but each individual has individual tastes: that is what makes the world go round. The thing that sort of troubled me about Sean-Paul was that I tried to talk to him after the showboat docked and we were all leaving the boat. He was very unfriendly and acted as if he did not even want to talk or accept a compliment. I was going to compliment him on some of his effects. Oh well, I suppose I shouldn't wear my feelings on my sleeve...hahaha. Jim |

Yes, they did appear at FISM as well. It was the year that Juliana Chen won the manipulation award.

David and Dania did appear at FISM. They also won awards at the Monto Carlo Circus Festival.
They are the best I have seen. I have worked with them on shows in pro basketball venue, circuses, theaters and other venues. They do it all.

David and Dania...WOW. They were at Blackpool a few years back and they certainly impressed me!
For me, the highlight of it had to be where David threw some coloured sequins into the air around Dania and when settled her costume was the sequin colour! Very nice indeed! Tom |

So, does the book "Instant Magic Costume Changes" by Monica "Monique" Monros teach the showering sequins costume change? I've seen that video on a couple of sites for something like $79. If it teaches the descriptions mentioned above, it's well worth it. I haven't gotten it because I didn't want to take a chance that it taught some other kinds of costume changes and then I'm out $79. It would be good to know if that's what we're looking for.

To my knowledge, David & Dania's routine is not explained. I should add that their routine is protected by legal means.

Jim,
Regarding Sean-Paul and Juliane's demeanor to you as they exited the boat. I told a friend of mine to go see their show as well. Well once she went to see them she too saw them walking off the boat and tried to talk to them. She said that they were in a hurry, but did manage to explain to her that they had to be at Celebration City to do shows that afternoon. So maybe that explains something of their attitude. She then went to Celebration City, because it was part of the "city hopper deal" and it didn't cost her anything to go there. At Celebration City after the show, They were much more relaxed and spent quite a bit of time with ANY ONE who wanted to talk until the lobby was empty. So maybe that put some things into perspective for you. Regarding his sloppy handling of Fans and so forth, I didn't even remember that part of the show, all I remember of their act was how fast she changed outfits. But if you are into the filler magic part of Quick Change acts, I saw David and Dania from a distance at a Mavericks game once and the magic they did inbetween changes was REALLY hard to watch. Over all I think both acts are very good, but I like the "around the world" them that Sean-Paul and Juliane establish better. Hope this help put things into perspective. |
