I recommend, Carl Andrews, table hopping cups and balls. It's a great two cup routine that ends with spongeballs under the cups, then he goes into the spongeball routine also. These are explained with a front view and rear (preformers) view.

Get the Greater Magic teach in video on cups and balls from http://www.stevensmagic.com then you will see various routines and types of cups. If you are working a bar or tables and want to be different, check Johnny Paul's routine. I know where you can get the cups.

BTW magicman6, I think (& I believe I have the sentiment right) what you probably actually want your signature to read as would be the following:
A NIGHT WITHOUT CARDS IS LIKE A NIGHT WITHOUT WOMEN. "NIGHT WOMEN" are something completely different... Now me, I would have said "WITHOUT STAR TREK", but you know, call it like you see it

Pete Biro makes the Johnny Paul cups, which are sold through Stevens Magic. They sell for $155 a set, currently. They are very nice, heavy brass cups.
Auke's cups start at €140.00 per set and go up to €800.00 per set for his standard sets, depending on the size. For his custom sets, you can pay as much as €300.00 per cup or more. I have the first set of the Monster Cups that Auke made. If you want to get an idea of what they are like go to http://www.cupsandballsmuseum.com You can see the various sizes next to each other, as well as a world of other cups. If you want a good set of cups, you will have to pay some good money. That's a fact of life. You may luck out and get a good used set, but figure that for a good set of cups, suitable for professional use, you will need to pay around $150.00 OR MORE! Johnson Products cups start around $195 list. RNT II Monti Cups, which are really nice cups start around $180.00. So, if you don't want to pay the price, watch ebay. But let me warn you, the bidding is very competitive there and there are some products that are grossly misrepresented. For example, there are people who sell items on eBay who have never even opened the boxes to take the measurements. I have repeatedly seen ads for "Collectors Cups" that are four inches tall. That comes right off the Magic Makers, Inc. web site. They aren't four inches tall. They are about 2 3/4 inches tall. Some of the honest sellers have changed their ads. The others don't let facts get in their way.

Stevens probably still has a FEW sets of the JOhnny Paul Cups. I still have maybe six sets.
Here's the history of these cups. I was totally fooled and blown away by Johnny Paul. Then, after seeing the video and the explanations, I wanted to do this routine, but the cups Paul had were custom made, few samples were ever created. Without the shape of his cups, the basic method would not work. While in Las Vegas, visiting Gary Darwin, Gary showed me a case with a photo of Paul doing the cups AND HIS ACTUAL CUPS. Gary was very kind and let me make careful measurements of the cups. Stevens, in contact with Paul's widow got us permission to make and market "replicas" of his cups. I worked a long time to find a quality spinner and invested a LOT of cash for the FIRST CUP... then had a few hundred spun. An amazing coincidence, was the spinner's father, now retired, actually made the FIRST Chop Cups for Al Wheatley, Chop Chop, who created the Chop Cup, the first ones being made of bamboo.

Pete: As I mentioned elsewhere, I've just ordered a set of your Johnny Paul Cups from Stevens Magic. I've wanted a set of cups like this for years - thanks for producing them!
Riley I remember my friend the late Arthur Day telling me how he took Johnny Paul and his wife to a local club when they were visiting with him a few years back in the UK. The club was accoustomed to - how shall I say it -- local/amateur talent and performers. Needless to say, Johnny blew their socks off ! |

Watch ebay for Phoenix Cups. I know they are not the finely tuned and "perfectly" turned cups you can find elsewhere, but you should be able to pick up a set of cups only for $50-65. (Although it looks like they currently are being sold with the wand and case for $75 -90) They are a good serviceable cup, heavy, and the price was within my budget.

Magicman6,
My advise would be to good a set in the hindered dollar range, learn and perfect your routine. studie as much material as you can on the cups and balls. Then if you decide that Cups and Balls is for you and you love it as much as so many here do, you will find that there are some wonderful cups being made today such, as Porper Cups and my favs, Sherwood Cups. PS: MY typing as you can see is wonderful |

For one thing, you can stack the Magic Makers cups with three larger balls on top of them. The attic space in the Phoenix Cups is somewhat limited. If this is not a concern, then the Phoenix cups are fine. Google Seattle Magic and order a set of seconds.

Bill,
I had the Phoenix Cups, so I agree, and I know you are a cup connoisseur. I would like to ad the Johnson cups are a good place to start if you are cost conscience. What do you think Bill? PS: Ammar is offering cups on his website that look like Fox Cups that seem nice, although I don't have a set so I cant say for sure. |

The Penguin cups and the Magic Makers Collectors cups are the same cups. The only difference is that the Penguin cups are copper and the Magic Makers cups are brass. The ones Ammar is selling are also Magic Makers Cups.
The Johnson Cups are excellent. They cost twice as much but they are worth it. I also really like the RNT II Monti Cups. If you want a set of cups that will last forever, get the RNT II stainless monti cups. If you want some cups that will last almost forever, get the brass ones. Either set will outlast your grandkids.

I've seen those Penguine cups and theyre really good quality but is it a good idea to buy the best and then you can always rely on it staying in tact?
I would rather not go to the trouble to have to re-buy all my items on a regular basis as it is very costly and inconvenient. In other words, by buying good quality stuff like those penguine cups, would it pay for itself after a while like double-glazing would keep central heating costs down....... |
