Let's not forget Dr. Michael Rubinstein. He has a killer, quick, and easy reverse Matrix on his "Knockout Coin Magic" videos. I believe it is similar to Michael Ammar's. Someone correct me please.

Is there a matrix on any of David Roth's 20 volume series?

I had played around with upteen variations over the years and recently saw Al Schneider lecture and perform the original.
There is an elegance and directness that is hard to beat. Of the variations, I prefer Kohler's routine from the Bannon book. Later.... Steve |

One thing that I think really adds to a matrix routine is the Ross Bertram display. This can be found likely in one of his two books (not sure which), and also on the "Dingle's Deceptions: The Video" tape by Kaufman Co.

I like Lee Asher's matrix. I've fooled a lot of magicians because of the way the last coin vanishes. ---Jason Dean---

I learned the version on Larry Anderson's Jaw Droppers video. Does anyone know if he came up with this routine, or was borrowed from someone else?

Check out "Coin Magic" by Richard Kaufman. (book)
It has some excellent coin matrix's (5 in all). 4 of them ALL by ED MARLOW. The first one "Olram's Instant Sympathy" is very similar to Bob Kohlers's "Two ahead is better than one." The last one in the book is called "SeeSaw 'Sembly" by David Arthur. All are very good. |

Um, I doubt that's Larry Anderson's original routine. Let's leave it at that.
The Bertram assembly appeared in his first book, "Ross Bertram on Sleight of hand" and in his "Stars of Magic" section. It changed the way people did the trick.

Having recently seen a video of Al Schneider performing his original matrix, I have to say it's still one of the cleanest, most magical looking things you can do.

I friend of mine does a matrix with four normal coins and no cards. The start position is with the four coins laid out in a row away from him. Two coins are then covered with his hands and drawn to separate corners and then the other two, etc. In the end, all coins are in one corner.
Does anyone know the name for this specific matrix variant? |

It sounds like shadow coins.
Was it done at the table or on the floor? |

Maybe someone reading this can check. It is a very nice trick but beware of the angles - you can't have people at the side. |

The effect you are looking for is called "No Extras." It is on Dean Dill's Intimate Coin Miracles video. I love this bare-handed matrix for a reason, it is incredible looking!

One of the best matrix effects out there is called Flying coins. Go to trickshop.com and download it. Very simple and crisp.

I have to tell you, I was even more blown away after he "tipped". The effect: all four coins simultaneously move from under one card to their places under four cards; then simultaneously move from the four cards to under one card. This is not for the feint of heart. If you rely on gaffs and gimmicks, don't even think about it. The misdirection is brilliant, and, even knowing how he does it, it fools my eyes and brain every time.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you are going to lose it when you see some of Shoot's work. Presently, he is still working on a DVD series with Bob Kohler, but it will be delayed a bit because Shoot was hired to lecture in Paris and London. If you want to reach him by email it's ogawa@wizards-inn.com
He has an early video lecture that contains two of his matrix sequences that he sells for thirty dollars. It also contains two Reset sequences, and his rope routine. I'm sure in the near future more of his magic will come out. If you're into packet tricks, well, he has created about a thousand of them. I'm trying to get him to put them all together and make a catalog of Shoot packet tricks. Greg

Jason Alford has a nice reverse matrix which starts off pretty much the same way, with the four coins in a row and then they are slid into four different corners. The nice thing about this effect is that 4 different coins are used, and there is an almost instantaneous backfire...

Check out Kort's Fourth. I think it was in Bobo. Still kills and is always overlooked.
Nice kick in the head at the end. |
