Peter / Marc,
May be a stupid question, but just to check, are all the effects shown on the trailers included in the DVDs? I ask because I can't see the fork bending and cigarette effects in the list of 'Effects Included' on the website . Thanks, SJ. |

123majik123,
"Love the dj shadow theme tune!" Where can I find that DJ shadow theme tune?

There are two tracks of DJ Shadow's used and both can be found on his album
: DJ Shadow Endtroducing The track palyed at the beginning when the qoutes are rolling is called "Stem long stem" The track that is a bit more brum and base (when marc is in the barn) is called "number soung, the" Majik. Just type the album name into amazon or something. |

Marc, congratulations, they look fantastic. Glad I have mine on order. The ciggarette things looks awesome, one of the coolest things I have seen in a while.
Nice choice of theme music as well. I can't wait Problem is I can't have them shipped to my halls easily, so I will have to wait a couple of weeks to get my hands on them
Trust anyone who has gone through it.

Love the trailers.. Does Marc teach the effects in the trailer ie: the cigarette lighting, bean from eye....? The quotes are also fantastic how do you go about getting quotes from the top guns?

Hi Guy's
The Folk bend is an effect called Mind Power. I purchased the rights from the fantastic Stephen Tucker (one of the most creative people I have ever met!) This will be released early next year complete with Stephen's comedy handling and Marc's spooky handling (this effect will come with a dvd performance and explanation) Marc does perform and teach the bean from eye trick. I had work today that vol 1, 2 & 3 should be with us tomorrow vol 4 is still held up in customs but should be with us in the next day or so. Thanks to everyone that have supported this project. We have more great things to come! Peter |

So the fork bend is not taught on the Chapters DVDs, correct?

Hi Scott
The fork bend is used as a prelude to 'Do You Believe" which is a multi bend routine, coin, key and fork in a glass which uses 'Untouched PK' which is my take on creating PK. Unknown to me Banachek used a very simular premise to fool the Scientists for project Alpha. Banachek did mention that he is keen to use 'Untouched" which as you can imagine is a huge compliment from one of our finest experts and teachers. As Peter mentioned 'Mind Power' (Fork bend) is Stephen Tuckers great idea and is a seperate item due to be released soon therefore I do not teach it on the DVDs. The first trailer footage is actually footage from some of my publicity footage not the DVDs, we decided to use it as most people have no idea who I am so it's nice to see someone in action. I asked Peter to do the second trailer so that people do not think it is a street magic DVD set which the first trailer looks like. The second trailer is shots from the actual DVD Chapters, it was a difficult thing to do as the routines on these DVDs cannot be summarised in a few frames, they are performance pieces with many elements, also we didn't want a trailer that was hundreds of megs in size as it slows down the website. Mind Power (fork bend) is something that I got from Stephen Tucker way back when and is the fork bend I use all the time. I believe it will be relatively inexpensive £20 ish? but is well worth the investment. The Cigarette is actually something that I have used for years I was going to explain this on the DVDs but it would be pointless as it is quite difficult to get the required special something. The product in question is called 'Ignition' and will hopefully be for sale at some point. The first trailer is really only to give you a feel of who I am and the second trailer a taste of the DVDs.. With kindest regards and thanks to you all who have invested your interest, time and money into the Chapters of Marc Spelmann.. I sincerely hope you enjoy them.. M.S.

Wouldnt you class the above as false advertising? I certainly would

I’m sure it’s well-intentioned for the reasons that have been stated, but to show trailers with effects not on the same DVDs can only lead to disappointment and misunderstanding. Especially given you are talking to many people who excel at getting quite-difficult-to-get-required-special-somethings.
However, I really look forward to enjoying the *other* effects, hopefully very soon. Best, Nick. |

Hi,
Let me answer the points that have been made about the trailer. The Spoon bend & Self Lighting Cig effects are both performed on the DVD but as a small part of a larger routine (do you believe), neither effect is listed on the ad copy nor DVD covers. At the time of filming Stephen Tucker owned the sole rights to Mind Power, so for us to explain the workings would be totally wrong. I have however now purchased rights to the effect and it will be released in the New Year. The Ignition effect is not Marc’s to explain. It is a concoction of chemicals he has been beta testing the effect for a friend who will be marketing it soon. Most magic DVD have performance only effects on them due to the fact they use a marketed item. I hope this helps to answer your questions. Regards Peter |

Darksceance..
If you go to the Alakazam Website you will see a listing of every effect I teach, none of the performance only effects are listed. This has been up on the site for two months and it is this that people have made the judgement to preorder with not a trailer that has been up for less than a week. That to me is not false advertising, the trailer is to give a feel of who I am. Every written piece of advertising has clearly stated what I teach. Alakazam has hundreds of pre orders and all have been due to seeing me perform live or from reading the adverts on Alakazams Site and Genie magazine. If I used a Ring Flight during a performance in the explainations I would not teach you how to make one but suggest that you get the prop required from a magic dealer. On Bob Cassidy's Mental Miracles he uses a Telematic Deck and the effect is listed on the box cover and advertising but he does not explain it, he merely and quite correctly states that it is a manufactured item available from most dealers.. The Chemicals used in Ignition are very difficult to get hold of since 9/11 my very good friend David Caley creates many ideas using chemicals and has had considerable difficulty getting the required chemicals. Also the idea of lighting a match or cigarette is certainly not new, it has been available for many years however the problems with it are that it can be unreliable in terms of time and sometimes even igniting at all. The chemical formular that Mr Caley uses reduces this greatly but is still under final developement as if he sells a version that is not at least 95% sure fire he'll get complaints. As Peter has already mention I do perform both effects on the actual DVDs, along with the full bean from eye effect and the coin bend which actually doesn't look half as good as on the DVDs themselves. I am sorry if any of you feel misled in anyway, it is certainly not my intention. I realise it must be strange to have an unknown release not one but four DVDs but this is why I wanted Banachek, Richard Osterlind, Larry Becker and Kenton Knepper to review some of the actual effects that are taught on the DVDs so that the buyer can even without knowing who the hell I am make a more informed decision to buy or not.. M.S.

Marc...
I was one of the first to have these sets pre-ordered, however when you show something on a trailer that says "the chapters of marc spellman" and then show an effect you expect it to be on there, now myself I don't really care that the cigarette and fork bend are on there as I know of their methodology, if I'm right in thinking yogis gaze? it was the list of performances that sold me but, if something is advertised by right it should be on there, its similiar to a tv advert showing footage of what will be on the programme, wen you watch it none of the advertised footage was included in the show, it is wrong! |

The effects are on the DVDs along with the coin bend and orifices effect (bean from eye socket) which are explained in full detail. There is nothing on the trailer that isn't seen on the DVDs..
You are correct about the Yogi Gaze but the original Yogi Gaze used chemicals that are hard to obtain and can be unreliable. I used to work in advertising and when a computer is advertised you can have a monitor displayed with it but is not supplied. Also films always seem to have scenes during the trailer that are not included in the final film however I digress, all of the footage on the trailer can be seen on the final DVDs apart from the barn and the corn field... Actually that is wrong as the trailer is also on the DVDs themselves... I appreciate your thoughts Joe and will keep them in mind for any future projects. I am flattered that you chose to buy from the effect listings considering I am totally unknown (hence the title of the first DVD 'The Unknown') I hope you enjoy them and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to pm me. M.S.

I re-read the quote, and don't see where he says he was "mislead." I do see the he states he feels it is wrong. He admittedly pre-ordered based on the list of performances.

Marc, I think what folks are saying is that the material you'll be teaching is strong enough to stand on its own, so why not use those for the trailers? (similar to what LL does for their DVDs) Agree that some folks may not know who you are, but the quotes from the "big boys" should be enough for them to make a leap of faith in purchasing the materials.
Just food for thought.... |
