Do any of you have any idea of the amount of work that goes into marketing something?
You're only slowing the process down by complaining about it. So what if he shows the effects on the trailer they're IN the dvd's he did not show a preview of an explanation of those effects on the trailer did he now? it seems the general public only seems content if we can criticise and whine. I'm sure the other effects (like the four chair prediction) will make you forget about those effects. |

I remember the first magic video I bought. On the advertisement it showed the magician turning a bubble into an acrylic ball just by touching it. I was amazed and bought the video. I was furious when it wasn't on the video!
It isn't false advertising if there's a disclaimer (as there is in the computer adds where the monitor isn't included), but people might be disappointed. From a business perspective that may not be smart. I, personally, can't wait for them and I think the trailers were very professionally done! Jonathan Grant |

I wouldn't be suprised if many effects never make it to release because of the hostile reactions every new release seems to get these days. Sometimes before anyone has actually purchased the item.( I am not talking specifically about this thread)
It really is difficult to produce and market effects and the rewards often don't match the input. Sometimes I think its to easy to get hold of material and it isn't appreciated these days. I remember having to spend £100s of pounds before I could even find something I would use. The internet has made it to easy and the work and sacrfice to find good material has diminished to the point it is no longer appreciated. Shrink |

Shrink --
I agree with you in many aspects, but also look at it from the perspective of the magician -- there is so much more out there to choose from (much of which is garbage or rehashed material), and anyone can put out a DVD and market it..... Benefit for someone like Marc, who many of us have not had the opportunity to become familiar with in the past, is that he can go on a forum like this and relatively quickly gain an international market (dare I say "fan club") for his material. Same can be said for Alakazam -- I'm probably naive, and many of my fellow magicians may have been ordering from them for years, but until I started interacting with Peter on the Café all of my on-line orders tended to go to Hank or Denny or one of the sites tied to a particular performer (i.e., osterlind). I'm now spending quite a bit of money with him..... Personally, I don't think any of the questions asked on this particular thread is real criticism of Marc or his work -- believe its meant to be constructive advise on how to present his new product to the marketplace. I've seen how folks have torn into some creators and vendors on other threads (and this is why I do agree with you in principle -- actually think you were kind in your wording!) and I think the words above are different (as I think you agreed above) Anyway, as I've said before, can't wait to receive the DVDs, and continue giving my business to Alakazam (as they continue to introduce us to innovative creators!) Let me just say that I have seen Marc perform very recently.
He performed a great drawing dupe (the first one was incredible, the second more obvious to the discerning mentalist, but great for a real time dupe none the less). Then a demonstration of his Mind Control, as I've said elsewhere on this board if I done stage work I would definately get this, THE AD COPY IS CORRECT!! I then had a quick chat after and I can honestly say that he's a nice guy, down to earth, great performing persona (real laid back, much like me), and very inventive. The DVDs are on my christmas list (cos I gotta stop spending £££ on mentalism!!) and I know the material will be top notch, regardless of the trailers. Curt.

Hi,
The Spelmann dvd's were not edited and mastered in house. The company we used was a large reputable company. I trust they would have cleared any samples via PRS and so on. Regards Peter |

I can't help but feel that we are getting away from the main element here and that is we have four DVDs that many professionals have given their personal reccommendations to.. This surely is something to look forward to?
Mr Spellman has released four DVDs for our benefit, correct he and Alakazam will benefit but having produced DVDs before myself the financial gain to a working performer is not as much as one would think.. Infact a working professional could easily earn the amount four dvds would supply within five or six jobs, with far less effort and still keeping your treasured routines. To release any of ones material is a generous thing and I am sure we will all take something away with the Chapters Of Marc Spellman.. Just some thoughts to keep us on track.. we are, are we not supposed to be working together? The magical arts has enough knockers lets encourage eachother to promote our art... J Beetham |

Is the "cornfield walk" effect explained on the dvds?
I know it's Marc most secret effect and It fooled me everytime I saw it. I hope it's explained as I saw it one the trailer! |

There were some reasonable things to talk about that are now ANSWERED and RESOLVED – that IS the point of a forum. Several people with small but valid concerns have even said they were already impressed, certainly enough to have preordered the set (including myself).
If the works are as nicely done as the trailers, we’re in for a REAL TREAT. The fact the Peter Nardi has arranged producing not a one, but a four DVD set, for someone relatively unknown, says a lot to the confidence he must have in the material and Marc. I’m looking forward to receiving mine. Cheers, Nick. |

This chap Marc has been brought into the limelite by the keen eye of others. The owner of one of the fastest growing magic dealers in the world stepped forward to bring Marcs work to us. I'm sure any one buying these dvd's will use something from them.
Lets just all look forward to the release of his work - get our reviews on the board - My appeal, to the better natured members here, is to wish Marc well with his project and to encourage him to continue sharing his ideas with us in the future. All those who are with me say: "Aye" Matt.
sometimes people can surprise you!

Two negatives = a positive, so do two complaints = a compliment?? I agree Nick, it if were merely all mindless ego-messaging as you put it, it would be a pretty boring place. I might as well just assume everything I read is 100% and anyone that says otherwise is an outcast, then keep all opinions to myself.
The most I have learned in this thread is the performers are top notch, the effects will be great, and I'm glad I didn't pre-order. I would be just as happy getting these at a later time to view opinions firsthand. I will appreciate viewpoints on both sides, and then use my own judgment. John E. OH yea...I learned one other thing. With a good mix of positive and negative comments, it still keeps the DVD one of the most discussed tops for quite some time, which is a good thing! John E. |

Hi all
I was wondering if mind control is tipped on marc's upcomimg DVD set. I was going to purchase it and the dvd set together, but don't want to waste money by buying the same effect twice. I understand that there is a performance of mind control on the DVD set, but is it taught. Thanks all Yours in Magic |
