If I already have M.I.N.D. by Lee Earle, is it worth it to get the teach-in series on CD that covers swami gimmicks, Q&A and Center Tears?

MartinKey, I agree that Karrell had a very low tech soluction for the problem, but I still like the idea of what Ian did. After all, if it were real why do we need to have anything written down... just start reading thoughts and that's what it looked like when Ian did his thing.

Well, most of these sources are no longer available
If you could point me to books or videos still available, that'd be great! |

Greg,
I agree that Ian Rowland is a great cold reader but is that the same as Q & A? With cold reading you can give some good guesses at personality, lifestyle, past, present and future events, and so on, but it is very difficult to devine a specific question (or a word) that someone is just thinking of. Martin,
You had to be there. It was amazing. As for specifics, he got that one friend had recently purchased a house and was having electrical problems. C'mon! That's pretty amazing! Greg

There is a great routine for Q&A in Tarbell vol 6,
called Sterling-Tarbell Astrological Mindreading Act. Re-reding the material (mentalism), in those books is like discovering buried treasure in your backyard. Best John |

I use that routine out of Tarbell...for Q and A.... It really plays well! Instead of pads of paper...I get some plain index cards...perforate them throught the middle then just number them per the instructions.. The index cards I just pass out with a golfers pencil then proceed...I used to do it with paper slips..but card stock is easier for them to write on without support... There was a routine like this in "Grants Fabulous Feats of Mental Magic" booklet....I love it. |

...and what a great book Grant's "Fabulous Feats of Mental Magic" is. I regularly use a couple of items from it. Lousy production values but a treasure trove of mental magic. It was actually written by Don Tanner, if my memory serves me correctly.

Hmmm, Tarbell... How practical is the Q&A test in there?
I don't have this book, as I like to invest into more up-to-date material (howeve,r I own most classics of Mentalism, of course, and even some hard to find gems), but I have never considered the Tarbell course. My question is, as this course was written in the 60's, how practical is the Q&A routine from Volue 6 for these days? Does it provide the illusion of the performer not reading or even touching the questions? Juan D |

I still have it too, Martin. The shoddy production will fool you into thinking nothing is in there worth trying. LOL.
I resited it for a long time, but the "Super X" Q and A (I think), done with a modified devil's hank, may not read well (at least for me)but packs a wallop! Mark |

However, muggles don't always see the same distinctions that we do! In his very generous and unduly flattering post, Greg was referring to a thing I do which is not, strictly speaking, a Q&A routine, but which I think amounts to much the same thing from the audience's point of view. At least that's been my experience, based on feedback I've had ever since. I first started playing around with the idea of a 'pure' Q&A routine a few years ago. As this is a public part of the Café, I will go and post a few more details for you in Secret Sessions. And, Greg, thanks for that very nice mention. Just to return the compliment, I think 'Scorch' is one of the best things that has ever been offered here on the Café, and your 'Floater' alternative version is equally brilliant. Just two reasons why Greg's 'Deep Thought' downloadable booklet is well worth getting. That is a foolproof center tear. It truly is, as he states on the video. If you learn this one, "It's the only one you'll ever need". It's that good. And I get a strong feeling that around "here", not too many people know about it. Also his Gentle Art Of Cold Reading was beyond my expectations. Lee is "The Genuine Article". His knowledge, experience and insight are second to no one. I'm looking to sell the Center Tear video, and buy the Q&A, Swami and C.T. all on one CD. Lee Earle's essays on the thinking and logic behind the subjects he teaches about make him the most underrated instructors in the field. But that's what is so valuable to those who do know. Banachek's Q & A is genuinely fantastic. I have already made the gimmick that he uses. (Actually that's a lie. My friend and fellow Café member Kennedy made it for me as I am useless)
As much as I like it I am kind of stuck as to how to proceed with the Q & A routine and how to use it to its fullest extent. If anyone could PM me with ideas it would be great. Thanks, TM |
