The only movies I'd find worthy to buy are the two "The Gods Must be Crazy."

King Kong (1933)...got me totally interested in movie magic back around 1962 when I read about the art of stop-motion animation and all, which changed to "live special FX" as I call 'em now!!!
It even got the great FX expert Ray Harryhausen hooked too...but when he saw it first run in Hollywood in '33!! As he's said many times when talking about it,"..I came out of the theatre absolutly stunned!!! And haven't been the same since.." LOTS of great ones listed here!!!! |

I won't rename all of the ones that I agree with, but here's a few that I didn't see mentioned:
"Brazil" You must see the original, not the butchered TV version. Incredible film from 1985 that predicted a lot of the c**p that we are living through now. "The Third Man"...a classic suspense masterpiece that no one mentioned. "Funny Bones". Has some incredible "vaudeville" era comedy performing that should interest magicians and it is also a fine dark comedy. Lee Evans should have won an academy award. Do a search and you will find some Café discussion of this film. "How to Murder Your Wife" an overlooked mid-60's comedy that men enjoy and all women hate....just the title is enough to make all women hate it. and many others. Best regards, Glenn Godsey |

Don't know how I found this old thread but I do have a few thoughts on it and similar lists of the "best". In all fields there can not be a best because it is a matter of personal choice. The better classification would be what are your favorite movies of all time. Even then to list my favorite ten would take a lot more time than I care to take now. I will show 3 of my top favorites (1) THE KID
(Charlie Chaplin silent film), (2) 2001 SPACE ODYSSEY (far ahead of it's time) and (3) CITIZEN KANE (generaly considered the greatest movie of all time). Our heroes will never die, they will live forever on film. |
