Hi Guys

I know a few of you are already booked on this and I am looking forward to meeting a lot of you.

Just thought I would share this with those still undecided....

Kidology UK 2004 registrations have now topped 150. The caterers have set a deadline of midday, Wednesday, September 1st for final numbers, so if you haven't yet booked time is limited! To register telephone Albion Magic on 0121 532 4509 or Practical Magic on 01691 690789. More information: http://www.albionmagiccompany.co.uk and http://www.practical-magic.com.

I know George, Clive and Billy are on their way...any other Café members heading down to Wolverhampton next week?

Hi Stu, We wont be as the hotel until late on Sunday night as we're not leaving Plymouth until about 8pm. We both have a busy day with shows befoe we can leave.

We're really looking forward to the round of golf with you on Tuesday. We have a space for a 4th if we find someone up there who also plays.

I should be there from the morning as there is a "magic car boot sale" in West Bromwich in the morning, although how I will integrate a magic car boot into my act I don't know!!

Looking forward to the golf as well, I always get my moneys worth at golf, having at least twice as many shots as anyone else for the same course fees!

I'm looking forward to meeting you guys, too, but you can count me out of the golf.
I'm the only member of my family that doesn't play and throughout my childhood had to endure everyone talking about the difficult 7th and the bunker on the fourth every Sunday lunch-time. As Mr Twain pointed out, why spoil a good walk? Smile

Hi Guys, Looking forward to the convention, but to be honest, I'm actually looking forward to the golf more!

I'm sick of magic at the moment as it's been soooooooo busy this time of year. Can't wait for the kids to go back to school and get a bit more quality time.

See ya Monday,

All the best, Billy

I agree Billy, it gets to be more of a job, than fun this time off year, 5 more shows and that's the end of the silly season, In the last three months I've only had about 5 days off and that's only because I crossed the days off in my diary and turned work away.

I've performed over 130 shows, most were 2-hour gigs, and I've gone through just over 10,000 balloons, and I'm apsolutly knackered. next week is the first time I've got more than I day off in a row and boy am I looking forward to the rest.

My bags are packed, the hotels booked, The clubs are ready and I'm raring to go.

PS, Don't worry mate I will clean out the inside of my car before you get in on Sunday Smile

Hi George and Stu, it was great to meet you both at Kidology, I had a good time, even if the convetion didn't live up to my expectations, we had a great time on the golf course.

It needs some new young blood up there giving the lectures etc, and performing routines with modern patter not the same old old guy's, who may be a fountain of knowledge in a 1 to 1 chat, but up on stage look like they are stuck in a timewarp. Ace mentioned them in his other topic about the 50's and 60's style of performing. You all know the ones, they constantly use the term BOYS AND GIRLS, and are very patronising. Ian Adair shone in this role, he made me cringe.

After attending this convention, it's made me decide not to bother again. The last 3 conventions I've been to (Blackpool - Bristol & Kidology) I haven't learnt a thing re: children's entertainment, as the lectures have all been done by mainly older folk which in my opinion are way too old fashioned for todays children.

I'll save my money in future. The highlight for me was playing golf with Emazdad and Stu-Di-Doo. It was also good to meet George.

Even though I enjoyed the golf, I'm a bit cheesed off, because I paid the same to play as Stu, but he got an extra 35 shots..... not fair. Oh, and I won't mention Stu and Emazdad's 11's and 12's. Opps sorry guys, didn't mean to mention that on here!! Smile

Remember I revealed to you at the end of the game it was the first time I had played a full 18 holes and I seem to remember winning the 16th with a par!

Anyway, Emazdad and Billy Whizz are right, there was too much old fashioned entertainment. The routines have been the same for decades and as the world changes and evolves there is a requirement for our acts to be updated.

We mustn't patronize or fool children but entertain, using their language and involving them as much as we can.

Apart from spending a lot of money with the dealers and bouncing ideas around with Emazdad and Billy Whizz (and others with a modern approach!) I took little away from the event.

Lectures must change for next year to avoid educating another generation to 50s and 60s style "entertaining"

Just my thoughts

HI,
Unfortunately so many people simply perform effects that the dealers sell and as long as people buy them they will pump them out, just the same old trick with a different picture on the front. How many versions of run rabbit run or farmyard frolics have you seen. How many magic acts use un-copyrighted music rather than pay to use the latest or at least recent chart song that the kids are familiar with. that's before you get into the often old fasioned styles of presentation.

Hi Emazdad,

Why do you disagree with the term, BOYS AND GIRLS?

Last I checked, this had no generation significance.

Which term do you instead towards the boys and girls?

Just about any natural friendly term that spring to mind except Boys and Girls. I'll call the boys, boys and the girls, girls, IE if looking for a helper I'll say I need a boy. But wont use the line "Boys and girls" when addressing them as a group. OK you lot being just one of the ways I address them.

Generally though I don't say anything, there is no need to keep addressing them as the know I'm talking to them. the helpers are addressed by their name, or mate, or princess which ever comes to mind at the time.

These people who say boys and girls at the start of every other sentence sound patronising to me.

To follow on from Clive's point it isn't what they said but how they said it. Too much talking down to the children.

Matt, the bits of business section invited people up to share B.O.B. with everyone else. Unfortunately not much original material here but a lot of guys going through part of their act on stage.
