Dear fellow magicians, greetings, I am currently working on a TV special in which I am required to make an airplane disappear. I am thinking of doing exactly like DC did but any input is greatly appreciated. To enhance the effect I am thinking of adding an aerial view from a heli and two models being photographed from behind the screen [at a specific angle] during the vanish. Any more ideas? By the way is there a method that can be cheaper than this? Like dc statue of liberty vanish or something? Could it be any better if I use "reference point change" method?

You can try to develop a car disappearance, which could also be great and less expensive. Good luck Johnny |

Yes, Don will charge min $1,500 for the design. Then you still need to have it built. An effect of this nature is not cheap.

You may want to also check with Harary. The cost would be about the same but he has the least expensive method on the market (I do believe). Ask him about PERSPECTIVE and using it "in another way" so that it looks different. Then again, Franz has a cute little Piper Cub that's "portable" he might give you a deal on...
The coolest (and cheapest) Plane vanish can be seen in Mark Kaylin's show @ the Hilton in Reno... I busted a gut laughing, it's such a bold piece of business. If the plane is small, as in a Cesna or Piper, you might want to study the Seigfred & Roy Elephant Production and play with that same concept e.g. the plane is on a raised podium, surrounded by people holding hands and yet, it vanishes! I'm not certain, but I believe that was Christian's thinking... You'll find that most designers charge around the same initial "Conception" fees + possible hourly rates as are applicable. In short, this is to keep people from wasting our time. Feel free to PM me should you wish to Brainstorm a bit. |

I can afford $1500, it's just that I was under the impression those elite consultants would charge in 5 figures.

If you can make an airplane vanish for under 5 figures (and do it convincingly), you deserve some sort of award.

Right about that.
Does any one know Franz Haray e-mail to contact him personally instead of his managers e-mail which is on his site. Thanks. Michael

First off, that's not Franz's phone number. It's his managers.
Secondly, Franz rarely checks his email, he spends very little time on the computer. Third, no offense, but if you have a TV show, no knowledge of large scale illusions, no consultants with large scale illusion background, and only have a $1500 budget, you have absolutely no business attempting a plane vanish. |

Eric you got it all wrong, I didn't say I have no knowledge of large illusions, neither did I say I have only 1500 as a budget. What I am trying to achieve is the best effect with the cheapest possible budget.

And if one can't afford a real Cube Zag...one has no business performing it.
Just my opinion, I may be wrong Kevin

I'll bet I could do it! Cost wise... $35-40,0000.
I would use a FAUX airplane based on a DC8. |

Well, then I apologize. Your posts made it seem like you had promised something that was far beyond your comfort zone and wallet.
Good luck with your TV show. I guess the old "Assume" saying applies here. I'm sure you know that saying too Living Illusions. |

I know this is for TV but are you doing it on a stage? Or are doing outside? If outside these guys have already given you some good suggestions. If you are doing it on a stage there are several methods that I could share but would rather not expose it on this thread. By the way In Dunnnenger's Encyclopedia of magic there is a great method for a elephant/and horse that might get your creative juices flowing.
