We have several threads about BOOKS, but what are your favorite booklets and pamphlets on mentalism? The Maven Color Series does not count because every post will list them. Mine are:

Anything written by Phantini
The Mentalism of Basil Horowitz
You Too Can Read Minds
It Must Be Mind Reading
Maven's Equivoque pamphlet

I am sure there are others, but I am away from my library. Smile

Well David,

I guess I'd say my Richard Busch and Doug Dyment booklets would be top of the list.

Oh, and your Equivoque booklet too Smile

I agree that Basil Horowitz is strong and to the point. I'd add:

Anything by Docc Hilford
Anything by Al Mann if you can find it and afford it.

EXCELLENT suggestions, all of you...

Sorry if MAGICK and THE JINX don't count as booklets... but those magazines are my OVER ANYTHING ELSE choices.

The Mental Magick of Basil Horwitz has been cited several times. Can anyone offer a brief review/contents list of volumes 1 and 2? How do volumes 3 and 4 compare? Thanks.

Hello,

DaveS is right. THE MENTAL MAGICK OF BASIL HORWITZ series have four volumes. I have all.

DaveS, it seems to me that you read Vol. 3 and 4.
Am I right?

Dear Peo,

No, not at all. Human memory is poor including mine.

By the way, every time I appreciate your contribution(information) to the Café.

Thank you, Peo.

Sincerely,

Jay

Greetings,

Good question. I'd separate them into these 4 groups with my first impression answer for each:

1) Fun Reads (Al Mann stuff)
2) Techniques (Obsidian Oblique)
3) Theory (Absolute Magic)
4) Routines (Psychokinetic Touches)

Sam Haine

p.s. I agree about the Color Books.

I'd definitely add in the following:

Between Two Minds - Ned Rutledge and J. G. Thompson, Jr.

The Miracles In Mentalism series - Robert Nelson (some of the material is admittedly dated, but there are some real gems in those three books)

The Power of Persuasion and The Power of Perception - both by Arthur Setterington (and I believe just reprinted by Paul Hallas)

And Turk, bless his heart, had to mention one of my favorite deep, dark secrets - Bob Mason's wonderful Postal Mental.

I'd also add to the list the various booklets issued by Phantini (Gene Grant). Lots of good material in those volumes.

"The Power of Persuasion and The Power of Perception - both by Arthur Setterington (and I believe just reprinted by Paul Hallas)"

This is correct, printed under one cover with the title "Arthur Setterington's Strange Powers". I have updated some of the info. where neccessary and added additional comments of relevance occassionally. Currently reviewed in Dec. issue of "The Linking Ring" and "MUM" magazines.

If I didn't think the above worthwhile I wouldn't have negotiated with Arthur about releasing them in this way.

There are so many good mentalism booklets about, but I have to agree with Paolo Cavalli.

Paul.

The Destiny Response, by Busch. Brand-new, but destined (no pun intended) to be a classic.
