Fred did his vanishing coin from tie.
He fooled me pretty badly with that one! Mike |

Just a self-invented word, but I think it fits his handling, because the misdirection was accomplished BY the handling itself.

Are we back to the Goshman pinch? For one scary moment I though I had fallen into "Pick a Card....Any Card."

What's wrong with using Tenkai's Backpalm? Hiroshi Sawa published some beautiful magic with it.
If you are working at tables, this thing is gold. No comment about fooling magicians. Focusing on that seems counterproductive to me.

Franz, send me your email address. I will send a demo in the way I get into and out of the Goshman pinch so the hand looks almost natural.
And there is no window. vinny |

I agree with Jonathan, why concentrate on fooling magicians. You'll be wasting a lot of quality time that way. Magicians aren't going to pay you; the lay public will.

Sorry, the following is off topic, but as we mentioned Fred Robinson in this thread...
I just had to dig out some old magic props for a certain reason and took the oportunity to also dig up some issues of "Pabular" what FR originally was the editor of. To whoever had the pleasure of meeting him, I here insert a couple of lines from an issue that was a tribute to him: Pabular, Vol. 6 number 7 July 1980: ************************** Fred, in addition to being editor of 'Pabular' since its formation, is also widely known and respected as one of the world's leading technicians with a pack of card. It was Dai Vernon who once said that he had spend a lifetime chasing all over the world to track down gamblers and technicians and learn their secrets. And yet he admitted that nowhere had he encountered Fred's equal when it came to false deals. ************************** Yes...that was Fred Robinson. Anybody who never met him missed the threat of their lifetime.

First of all...it's fun. I for one enjoy the challenge of fooling magicians using techniques they are aware of. And who says magicians don't pay you? Ask Daryl or Mike Ammar how much money they make a year on the lecture circuit. Ask L&L who pays their bills...laymen or magicians who buy their books and videos. I'll almost be willing to bet that Dan Harlan has made more money selling Cardtoon to magicians than he has made on lay audiences...and how about tha U3Fly or D'lite...and the list goes on. Who says magicians don't pay you? Mike |

Try Brad Burt's "Coin Technique #3: Spellbound" tape. There is an extended teaching segment on the Goshman Pinch. He calls is the Goshman Backclip.

To the guy that asked why use the Goshman pinch instead of the backclip used in "Up in Smoke" there's a simple answer: Angles are dractically better with the Goshman pinch. Up in smoke is well worth getting because of the routines but his routines are much more practical ( & much less anglely)using the pinch.

I really am practicing & trying hard to do the Goshman Pinch (I just gotta learn Sankey's Mr. Clean Coins Across). I am using quarters as opposed to half dollars, as I would like to do this with borrowed coins & I feel that half dollars aren't that readily available.
Anyway, it seems that I can't get the coin in position to pinch it between my pinky & ring fingers. I believe it's because my thumb is too short & can't push it over that far to get it into the 'pinch' position. Any ideas or suggestions to a person with 45-year-old hands with 'short thumbs'?? Thanks in advance. |

Hi, everybody !
I'm French and your forum is very helpfull, so I'd would like to know the procedure to get out of the Goshman Pinch ! I can get IN the Goshman Pinch, but I can't get OUT :o(( How do you do for this move, returning the coin inside the hand ? PS: I apologize for my English language ! |

Normally a bit of a shake with the hand in a fingers down fist works, Sankey uses this a lot in his routines.

Thank you, Rik !
But I've tried a shake of hand (like Greg Wilson says in DVD On the Spot), but it does't work for me !!!! The coin falls on the floor :o(( Do you open the fingers with the shake (before or after the shake) ? Do you know a good explanation (with video) for getting OUT of the Goshman Pinch ? |

I open the figners just a little bit, so when you release the left little figner grip during the upward motion and pull it up a bit with the thumb, it goes into the hand. If you need, I can make you a video.
J'espere que je t'ai aidé! |

Rik, thank you !
My coin is between 3rd and 4th fingers. So I can't pull it with the thumb ! And if I open, a little bit, the fingers, the coin falls immediately, even if I do a upward shake of the hand. If you can do a video, it's OK for me !!!!!!!!! |

It is possible to contact the coin with the thumb - reverse the actions which the thumb did to put it there, if you are getting in to the position the way Greg Wilson teaches. If you angle the wrist upwards a little as you shake the fist up, there's more of a target for the coin to re-enter the hand. Hope this helps.

I think it's really easy. Basically you just let go of it and catch it straight away.
