Before settling in with dove magic, I have a major question. Are dove magic only for stage? Can some of the techniques such as dove vanishes be performed surrounded, or are they angle sensitive?
Thanks Lance

A lot of concepts and moves as far as body steals are concerned can be adapted to a closer-up audience. But once you start talking living room distance away you may want to try some sort of prop to produce your doves. Althought I've heard of and performed dove magic with audiences pretty close, however I adapt my steals to bring my loops into my jacket and broader mis-direction for better cover. I hope that clears up a few questions you may have had,

It's absolutely possible to perform dove magic up close. I've watched David Oliver and a few others perform in a parlor like setting where I was only 10 feet from him and the steals were flawless. As Sperris said, you need to adapt your loops to be under your jacket, but after that, it's just a matter of timing, and practice.

Lance,
There are plenty of things you can do with doves up close. Many of us have done night club magic where we produce doves at the customers' tables. No problem! Produce the bird. Go south with the silk and harness to get a wand. Perch the dove on the wand and let the ladies talk to it. (I always perch the dove on a wand to pass it around. It's safer for the dove and gives the audience a handle. Oh Yes! I did have another reason didn't I?) Good Luck! Bob Magic By Sander |

Thanks! I appreciate the insight. I'll be looking further into this realm of magic.
