Telma was one and Lilian Bobo another. Two unrelated ladies from the last century spring to mind. Lilian had a nice effect in Bobo's, I think, called Thieves and Sheep. Check out the Gallo's boys book "The Underground Man" for a revised version of this effect. Female magi are few and far between, no doubt. I don't know if that's a good thing or not? Why aren't women more intrigued to go and learn sleight of hand? I personally would love to meet and see a lady performing exquisite magic but have yet to meet her.

I believe that Adelaide Hermann, the wife of Alexander Hermann, toured vaudeville very successfully with a coin manipulation act after her husband died.
Incidentally, I teach a coin magic class at our local public library every year for local youngsters. I have always had several girls in each class, and they usually perform better than most of the boys. My guess is that they are less impatient, and are also more diligent in practicing. SETH

But let me throw this question back into your lap. Why are you worried about whether there are any famous women who do coin work? Most of the great coin "men" are not famous. We know of them because we are magicians. But if you ask any layman who David Roth or any of the other "famous" coin manipulators are, they will give you a blank stare. Set your sights higher than the past. Be the first really FAMOUS female coin worker. Start with Tours. Then the rest of France. Then Europe. Then the world. While we stand upon the shoulders of giants in magic, we don't have to use them for anchors.

I believe there was a woman named Celeste who is a coin worker. I think she has worked the Castle and may have been Paul Harris' girl friend some time back.
BTW - my wife Maria Schwieter is a graduate of the Chavez Course in Magic under Neil Foster. She can do some excellent close up and stage work. She has worked at a number of conventions e.g. MagiFest, Gatlinburg Winter Carnival. And she is invited to FFFF as well. It's awesome to be married to someone who not only understands the attraction but loves magic and practices it herself. I'm a lucky guy! Mike

"Talma" was Servais LeRoy's wife and starred in the "LeRoy, Talma and Bosco" Show. Check out Mike Caveney and Bill Rauscher's book: Servais LeRoy - Monarch of Mystery, for the full story. T. Nelson Downs considered Talma to be a better coin manipulator than himself - "The King of Coins."

My girlfriend goes down to the local shops and makes any kind of money disappear with consummate ease.
Even when it's something I don't want she seems to talk me round...now that's what I'd call a world class manipulator. Seriously though, I haven't seen any first class female magicians. I would love to though. |

Emiline,
You live in France. Perhaps then you should know about Alexandra Duvivier. She performs in Paris at the Doublefond. http://www.doublefond.com/

In the US, Trixie Bond is not generally known as a coin worker, but she does some good coin magic.

Lisa is very good. You don't see her at magic conventions very often. She was on the bill at one of John Mendoza's conventions many years ago. More recently she was at the MagiFest on the close up show.
