Is any body over there working in Blackpool?Never been there, never will, but the name conjures up magic from the Punch & Judy books and Gen magazines of my youth.
Does anyone have stories about the old times:Vic Taylor,Percy Press,Dick Turpin,Horace Spencer and the Punch men? Desparate to beg borrow or buy a reading copy of"DENISE-PRESTODIGITATEUR AND ILLUSIONIST' by Reg Parkenson.

The audio on Percy Press is great with many ideas which can be used today. Also Jimmy Haviland booklet and video for info on the last of the Street Magicians (The Old School)I still go through the Secrets of the Street Conjurer(Huggins and Culpitt)when looking for old/new ideas.Re Blackpool, have worked private and corporate gigs there but as for the streets!!! don't think it would work as there is sooooo much more to compete with, must be like trying to work Vegas or Piccadilly Circus. Also remember most of the Punch men are on contract through the councils or shopping arcade owners.

Thanks Kondini. I had the Percy Press tape, maybe Martin Breese can help me find the others.
Do you mean the punch men arn't allowed to bottle?

Kondini is right.
Blackpool will always be rembered for the magic convention, fish and chips and Punch and Judy, and also for trying to impersonate Vegas, badly. |
