It happened today. I was clowning for an organizational event. I had 25-30 kids, some with parents, in line for balloons. A young boy came up when it was his turn and before I even asked he announced,
"I want a Sword, a belt and a hat!" His mom, a little embarrased, told him, he should use a better tone and use the magic word to which the child turned to me and announced, "I WANT A SWORD, A BELT AND A HAT, CLOWN!" I thought his mom was going to pass out. I almost died, I snapped to attention, saluted and said "Yes Sir!" There was nowhere else to go.

Mostly I just feel like I want to smack the parents who let their Kids raise them.
Kids like that may mortifiy their parents in public, but they probably also control the household in private. I wont go any futher with this as it can get away from magic altogether. But I do everything I can to stay away from performing for Children. I love young adults, and work with them a lot, but there are just too many spoiled brats and bad behavers among the very young. Follow up story, New day, Private party. Child's first Birthday. Only 7-8 children were there. I ran into the language barrier as I didn't know the party was for German Kids. The mother had been showing her little boy picture of clowns all week so he wouldn't be scared of me. He took right to me and we had a grand old time. As I was making balloons for some of the older kids, the Birthday Child said "cown" and came up to me. I was told later it was his first words. Today was one of my best days ever.

To me, there is nothing greater than the smile and astonishment of a child when I perform magic. It makes you feel so good to know you made the day of someone else. Magicans make impacts on people's lives..
I commend you Rob. I would have loved to have seen it. Brian |

I'm not a kiddies' show performer, mainly because I've many young nephews and nieces who are obnoxious!
However, I'll never forget the day I did some magic (sponge balls, I think), for a quiet child. Later, his mom came over and said "Thanks! She's terrifically shy, but that's the first time she's EVER talked to anyone except me!" Talk about real magic.... |

The child you spoke of in your quote has been spawned and now has a clone living in Dallas, TX. The performing clown was suberb. However, an hour appearance soon came to an end and it was time for clown to leave. Child threatened to kill mother if he didnt stay longer. And......at $150.00 additional hour, the clown stayed another hour. Child tortured the clown and kept him on his toes. I'm sure that performer had much to think and say about parenting. I haven't done B'days for over 10 years now but as far as Im concerned, the Children's performer earns and deserves every dollar and more for their performance. The child I speak of asked him to return next year. I actually heard the guy whisper "You bet kid! And I'll make sure and ask your parents for DANGER pay while here". Randy Stewart |

To perform for kids you have to play with them. I think that's why my childrens shows go so well. I'm basically just a big kid that never grew up.

Mr Weber knows his stuff! At my kid shows I'll often act as childish as the kids.
Here's what happened to me yesterday. I do a lota bowl at my birthday show. I call it a spitoon. After pouring it out a couple of times I get in the kids faces and warn about spitting in my spitoon, it's just for show. A few of them started to spit on me and they did that every time I poured out the water. First time that's ever happened in all the years I've done this. I guess I was asking for this to happen sometime with my presentation |

Most kids are very polite and grateful when a clown or magician comes to their party to do a show. I love kids so much that at times I feel like doing the show for free.
