I would like to buy this if anyone has a sparingly used or never used good as new unit. I am refering to the Orginal Don Wayne Dancing Hank. The one which retails for about $35. Not any of the expensive electromechanical ones. Thanks.

Respect the creator and buy an authorized version. Then you can make or adapt your own, for your own personal use, because you then have the RIGHT to do so. Some items are public domain (and you can make and use yourself) and some aren't. Obviously, a DON WAYNE Dancing Handkerchief is not public domain. - Donald.

Hey Donald I agree with you about not making one your self...however just try and find one of these on the market right now.
Most dealers advertise this product yet they have been out of stock for several months and have no idea when it will be available again. I would be tempted to make one myself, but I will wait a little longer...I have a feeling Don & Sean want us to buy the more expensive version... Johnny Mystic

Yes I would agree with Johnny.
Donald, both Johnny and Myself have looked in all shops. And they have not had iot in stock for about a year now. If they have discontinued it and not producing it at all. I see no harm in making one if it really matters to an act. I mean we are willing to support the creator. But if the creator is not around. Or probably not in the industry at all anymore(as many designers are now doing by jumping into associated industrys). The what can we do. And what we are doing is only taking the idea and making it in our own way. And when it comes back into the market. We will sure buy the original again. By the way if Sean and Don are waiting for us to buy the more expensive version. I have news. I will not buy the impossible hank because I want to get both or none. If I have both I have a good routine. If I have one of them stand alone the routine will be bland as they are not good by themselves alone. I am going to buy the impossible hank. (As that's part of my planned routine). But I need the don wayne hank too to combine them. So now I'm first trying for the Don Wayne Hank. If I don't get it. I'm not buying the impossible hank. |

I did a google search for "Don Wayne Dancing Handkerchief."
Up came this site, amongst other recognized dealers like Tannens, Daytona Magic, Abbotts, etc.: http://www.magicmore.com/Collections.htm $30. Registered number 2388. Because it was an individual prop, from a collection, I imagine it really is there, not out of stock. I have no idea what this person / dealer is like to order from. - Donald

Hey Donald, No offence to anyone. But something doesn't feel right about that site. It doesn't mention whether it's a used unit or new. Are they professional dealers etc.?

I assume the items are used, or slightly used (near new), as they were acquired from someone's magic collection. Again, it states this on the page, and that there is only one of that item.
Here's "Magic & More's" home page (I just followed the links): http://www.magicmore.com/ http://www.magicmore.com/page2.htm He said online that he has been running his shop in one form or another since 1982 (currently, only online). It says online say "Magic & More" is a registered business in the Norfolk, Virginia, USA, area. The owner's name is Charles Windley. As far as I can tell, the store is a not member of the MDA (Magic Dealers Association): http://www.magicdealers.com/memeberlist.html So, the question is, has anyone had experience with this dealer? Best to ask that in the appropriate area of the Café. Some might have, just because of being collectors. - Donald

That could be because it is no longer a store front business.

The Don Wayne Dancing Handkerchief This is the routine made famous by David Copperfield in one of his early television specials. One of the few methods not requiring an assistant or advance setup. Can be performed in a living room or almost anywhere. Comes complete with handkerchief, foulard, special gimmick, routine and instructions. You can learn this in under an hour. Don Wayne registered these and this is number #2388. New condition. $30.00

So, $750 doesn't strike me as under priced for something used, and that he can't verify its authenticity / history for collectors.

That's why it Bugs me but I e-mailed them on it. Plus I know of a builder, who has worked on/seen the workings of the Older Magicians Props as in Houdini's Blackstone etc.
I just contacted a guy about the sub trunk who Lectures on Houdini. He might be able to tell. |

This thread is really old I know, but I wanted to vouch for the shop Magic & More and owner Charles Windley. He used to operate a shop in Norfolk, VA and closed it years back. He does still operate a warehouse that stocks all of his inventory. Yes his website is not very flashy, but he's an older guy and keeps it low tech. He is a great guy and very knowledgeable. He has some rare and unique finds...and odds and ends-like any other magic shop. But his lists are accurate and up to date and he is more than happy to help with anything you need. Contact him- chances are he can find something you are looking for or may even have it on his shelf. http://www.magicmore.com

PM me for my real opinion. I am not a member nor will I ever be. Back to Windley, he ships and pays his bills. I did have some small problems with some of my items he carried. PM if interested.

This is one of those beautiful effects that I never use. I bought two of them from other magicians with the same experience. (Perhaps proof of what in finance we call "Great Fool Theory".)
This is such a clever device until I have no plans to ever give them up. Perhaps I will find and even better application someday. My problem with it has been transitioning problems from one effect to another. It would be a great bit for an MC. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
