Will hand Size come into play at all when learning card tricks? And if so are there any books or tricks for people with relatively small hands?

Bullzeye,
hand size doesn't mean anything, no matter what anyone says, I have small hands myself (damn mothers side of the family) and I can palm without a problem, and I also hand a large gap in between my pinky and ring finger since birth because my fingers are bent kinda, which cant be covered up, The only thing you may have problems withs is a few of those knacky one hand cuts, but those arnt even much a problem as for books.. not to my knowledge, hands are hands
when i beat you at your own game, you'll have no place else to turn

Bullzeye,
I too have small hands. At first palming was a problem but that was because I was not used to palming a card. It felt like I had a brick in my palm. I am currently working on my classic pass and is coming about nicely(though still needs work). I believe once you become accustomed to having cards in your hand things should come to you. It will almost become second nature.
Magic is a vanishing art.

You might also try using bridge size playing cards. When I was younger (with small hands), that is how I learned to do my one hand cuts and other sleights. Then again, as I got older I decided that trying to use bridge cards was causing a problem when using gaff cards etc... try to learn with poker size, if you can't get it, go to the bridge size. But remember, if you decide to go back to the poker size, it's like learning the sleights all over again. Matt Redd

I have really big hands, but I started with my love of magic way back when I was a tike (with small hands). This is one of the rare examples where size really doesn't matter

You could try using a mini deck if all else fails. I don't think I've ever seen good sleights with mini cards.

I have tiny hands...but refuse to go to bridge size cards! It taks a bit of creativity but with a little thought and lots of effort I'm able to accomplish most sleights.

Yo:
In over 30 years of teaching magic I have never found hand size to be a problem. In fact I have seem more problems with over large hands than with small! Malini had hands freakishly small and was without question one of the great sleight-of-hand artists of this or any other age. Good luck, brad burt http://www.magicshop.com

I think it does not disturb at all, at least I have never heard something like that

It's fairly easy to do sleight of hand with small hand size. Lee Asher has a small hand (try checking out his site for the measurement http://www.leeasher.com)
I too have small hands but I can handle cards pretty well. It's just practice. However, it becomes difficult when you do card flourishes, Xtreme Card Flourishes to be exact. |

I always felt my smaller hands made slights much more difficult...
However, being that I have rheumatoid arthritis, it's entirely possible that the difficulty is purely with my lack of dexterity... |

I think big hand size is just a bonus. Doesn't matter if you have it or you don't.
Don't think too much.
Just hit it. |

That's all i have to say about that!

Yeah I can see how having huge hands can make people think that, I also think that small hands (way smaller than average) can make it difficult when learning to palm. BUT with proper misdirection on your part you can get away with palming if you have tiny baby hands.

I have a short thumb! I won't ever be able to do say, a triple charlier cut, even with bridge cards (can do it with minis though! haha). That second joint in the thumb that most people seem to have isn't really there for me. I test out these things on my wife, she has smaller hands than me, but a normal thumb and sadly, it only took her about 5 minutes to get the triple charlier cut down and she doesn't even do any magic.
Am I just being silly? =) |

I have really small hands and can palm and do most any seights I have tried. I used to use bridge size cards but I had heard such great things about tally ho that I switched to them(they don't come in bidge size). However I switched to poker cards and I didint have any trouble with the size; I could do all the sleights with poker that I could with bridge.

I think it's practice too. But with some flourishes, it seems big hands are better.

You're right there! In flourishes, BIG HANDS ARE A MUST!
