Because they WANT to believe that death is not the end and that their own loved ones are still out there. And that they themselves won't dissolve into nothingness one day. I would like to believe it too, if I could. Being sceptical and a mentalist prevents me from believing it, but I understand that her audience gets certain emotional benefits from believing her.
That's why she has such an enormous success.
BUt is it ethical ? That's another question. And a tough one too.

Thank Mystery
But is it ethical?
Thats the question.
She is doing an act,
I think so,and
many, many people
believe her
without any question.

If she doesn't actually believe she has powers, then it's clearly unethical as she's knowingly defrauding people.

As to why people believe, I agree that some people want to believe, and I list additional factors in this post.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

Ethics can be a very personal thing. Take eating meat for example. Personally I think it's wrong for another animal's fate to be predetermined (resulting in the slaughter and human consumption of the it) the moment it is conceived. Over 95% of the population of the US would probably disagree with me and continue to eat meat. I believe those who eat meat conduct themselves in much more unethical way than those who pretend to be psychic, and yes I hate to say it but also much less ethically than anyone who'd expose. That however is personal to me, and I'm sure many would disagree.

Just because someone knows they do not have 'psychic powers' doesn't automatically make the actions unethical. There can be underlying motivations, including the fact that many people are comforted by 'confirmation' of their own beliefs and having a weight lifted from their minds.

Would you say that the catholic church was unethical for liquifying 'blood' or promoting transubstantiation? It is important not to separate mainstream beliefs from more esoterical thought. Neither is more valid than the other.

Yesterday Char was on Dutch television,
claiming to have contact with
a 10 years old girl died from cancer,
a boy of 14 who comitted suicide,
the parents of a transsexual
and a killed politician.
Research claimed that more then 70% believe this readings.
I did not hear one realy critical word,
thats whats amazing me.

Bonzo, yes. I believe most religion serves one prupose. To comfort us. Is it wrong? It's like believing in Santa Clause, is it right even when the facts show there is none? It takes faith to believe in Santa too.

If we waste enough energy believing in blind lies, starting wars over them, pursecuting others over this belief, spend billions of dollars either paying homage to these frauds and conducting scientific research searching for answers to questions that are made up in the first place then yes it is wrong. Religion, psychic, or Santa why perpetuate a lie?

With that being said, I am a religious man. I just like to challenge peoples beliefs. Why follow like sheeple? One educated and learned man who has questioned and come up with scientific examples is worth 1,000,000 sheeple.

Of course this is just my opinion.
