I don't have much experience in manipulation magic, but I was thinking of doing a fountain pen manipulation. Can anyone point me to resources where I can learn the sleights for manipulating such an object?

I do that a lot in my shows when doing drawing board, etc. I have just learned to adapt flip stick moves to pens and markers. it works quite well. You can also use sleeving techniques.

Also look at the Vernon wand spin. Also Carl Cloutier sleeving work.

Doing the wand spin with a pen or marker might be difficult because of the size, but the best way is to simply try it and see if it can be adapted to your needs.

Cloutier's work on sleeving would certainly be well worth looking into. Great idea there.

Greg Wilson's On The Spot videos have a good routine called Recap.
Ruun Klan (sp?) has a manuscript called Impromptu Hitman which uses a pen.

I agree! http://www.pentrix.com is so cool. Kam, the creator, has smooth hands when he holds a pen. He takes everything to the extreme..

Hello,

The dude performing the pen flourishes on the Superhandz website is Kam from the Pentrix site. A foutain pen would probably be too short and unbalanced to be used effectively for pen manipulations. Use something longer, like a nice long ball point pen with the cap placed on the tail end. I think that the Pentrix site has tips on how to modify a pen to make it perfect for spinning.
Also, most of the pen spinnig moves can be applied to wands. That's what I do...thumb rolls, reverse rolls and spins. Of course, the Vernon wand spin, even if not used in conjuction with a vanish, is a beauty.

You don't want to overdo this type of flourishing in a magic routine but it can be nice in the right setting.
