A Finnish company has pioneered using fog as a projection surface instead of a screen. Looks downright amazing, seen the demo. It could have applications in illusioneering. Check their site for more info:

Looks great. Thurston used a projected image on smoke for his Hindu Rope Trick way back in 1927. "Everything old is new again."

This is very cool. Similar to shooting onto a fan array of water. However, this will be much easier to use in theatre. It would make a great opening to shoot video onto and then come walking thru it to open the show.

It sounds like it is made using the Mefog style of fog.
Mefog is high pressure water pushed thru an orifice that is basically so small, if you shined a light thru it, you would not see thru it.
It is used at the Fountain of Angels Light and water show at the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri.
It's very neat stuff and is real fog without any chemicals.

So, who's gonna be the first to get it?

Kevin, it could be Mefog, have no idea. I just know it immediately evaporates and is dry and cool to touch. I´ve seen the interactive version and that was awesome, it looked like pure magic. The guy just drew to the surface...amazing.

Combining this with an appearence...that would be extremely cool. A projected image that comes to life. A prop from someone like Ryan R of Adamant would look great with this.

This looks like a really cool effect. I sent them an email and they quoted me a price of 95,000 Euros - which translates to about $116,523.58 USD Yikes!

Cool effect but out of my budget.

Did you see that?

I discovered this technology four or five months ago and too saw many possibilities for an illusion design or two. Held off on any further research though due to the costs associated as Jeff pointed out.
