T Lamanske, that was a great post. I was trying to figure out what might make Hundy different from its predecessors (Fast Cash and Dollarama), and it sounds like it's the first phase blow-off. A small contribution to the original effect, perhaps, but it's often those little touches that take a trick to the next level in terms of impact.

Todd, that's exactly right. The false count should be highly utilized before going into the main trick with the Houdini 500. With the false count, their reaction will usually be, "oooook? so what?" and then you hit them with the houdini500 and their reaction will explode to "What the &%*#?!"

I just ran into someone today who hasn't seen me in over a year. The first thing he wanted me to explain to him was Hundy. He hadn't seen me work in over a year and that's all he cared about.

I have 3-D Cash, which I really like....Would it be beneficial to get Hundy, or are they too similar?....

I get great reactions with this.
I say I was eating in a restauraunt last week for lunch and the bill came to $19.88,,,,,I then explain I got out my wallet and only had $5 in there ( which I now count out ),,,,,then I explain I told the waitress good thing i,m a magician and I can turn one of these bills into a $20,,,i then have the spectator point to one of the bills ( just not the bottom bill which I kinda hide under the other 4 ) which I then replace onto the top of the stack.....i then do the move and they see the top bill is now a $20.....then I explain I needed some extra spending money so I changed all the bills into $20's which I now count out..... this always gets great reactions and I think any kind of STORY helps this trick ,,,,to just say look here's five dollars,,,now look tah dah its 5 - $20's just doesn't have the same impact... also i,ve noticed as a general rule almost ANY trick with paper money gets people excited and happy!!!! |

Well, I'll put Richard Sanders Slow Burn up against this any day. Slow Burn looks like real magic. Hundy 500 does not. Slow Burn doesn't have the odd looking count Hundy does. And, I use slow Burn to actually pay for things and it gives me the opportunity to hand out my business card.
I wasn't going to mention this beacuse I'd prefer folks doing Hundy 500 over Slow Burn. If I was going to do Hundy 500, then the Fred Kaps fast cash, I think, would be better. I don't think Hundy improved the Kaps idea. Hey, I love Greg Wilson's magic, but I thought this project fell flat.

MagicChris,
Here is a little presentational tip, although you may not need it since you are already performing Slowburn. As mentioned earlier, in Slowburn, you do have to fold the bills up before you show them to have changed. I came up with a presentational angle that makes it logical. I show the bills to be "ones" and then I say something about "you can't really impress the ladies with a bunch of Ones so I always put a larger bill on the outside of the stack". As I say this, I wave my hand over the "ones" and they now see a "Hundred". I then say "This way, if I fold up the bills like this, no one can tell what I have. In fact, some people might even think that I have a stack of Hundreds". As I deliver this line, I fold the bills and then open them and do the count to show 4 "Hundreds". While I have done both Hundy and Slowburn (the gimmick is the same), I actually prefer Hundy. To me, and this is just a personal preference, the move in Slowburn, that makes the bills change, looks like a move. Maybe it's because it resembles the Erdnase Color Change. Don't get me wrong, it does look magical, but for me, I like the Hundy handling better. all the best, Todd |

Generally, what I did was change the bill, fold it up and start to place it in my pocket. The spectators always motion to stop you from putting them in the pocket. Then I just say, "You want to see the bills?". Then spread to show all the 100s. It kinds of adds a kicker on top of the effect. Lee |

Even though I don't agree with everything MagicChris says, I do agree that Richard Sanders' Slow Burn is more convincing than Hundy 500...

Yeah but you can't do slow burn completely surrounded with hundy 500 you can. And about the point where you can only change your bills into 100's, 99 percent of the time when you ask a stranger if they want to see a trick, they want you to do it with your money, their not going to give somebody they don't know money, or maybe they just don't want to go through the hassle of digging in therr pocket, if they do then do the 100 dollar bill switch.

The verdict is in: Slow Burn out perform Hundy 500, which can now be called "Hyundai 500".

On 2004-10-10 12:52, MagicChris wrote: The choice is all yours but try to be a little more open-minded and think of the pros and cons...I'll post up a review I wrote last March on Hundy...It adresses this issue: Name: Hundy 500 by Gregory Wilson (DVD) Price: $25.95 Learning Curve: 30 min – 1 hour (depending upon how long it takes you to make the gaff) Difficulty: Beginner Running Time: N/A IN A FLASH: Wilson’s routine is the BEST version of the effect out today. Couldn’t ask for more! 9.5/10 PROS: - Excellent effect! - Greg's teaching and performance are excellent. He also teaches you some tips and psychology behind, very useful not only in this routine. - The DVD production couldn’t be any higher - 100% angle proof -Works with all type of currency… - Pack small and plays huge (fits right into my wallet). - Instant Reset. CONS: - More expensive than the other effects like it (3-D Cash, Visi-bill, Hypnobill). - There is a gaff, and if you want to do the effect like Wilson (changes $1s to $100s) you better have $606.00 just lying around. - One could argue about the change not being as visual as others (get into this more later). Review: The Effect- You show 5 $1.00 dollar bills fronts and back very fairly. You stack them. You fold the stack in half and it's a $100 dollar bill. People are amazed at this point. You then open the stack and show ALL of the bills are $100 bills. You can do this completely surrounded and with people looking down and from over your shoulder. After the change you cleanly and fairly show 5 $100 bills, fronts and backs. (NOTE: you do not have to use $1s and $100s, you could use different currency) Wilson shows you 5 performances of the effect in real world situations, with 5 completely different reactions. I think we all have done what we think is just a knock 'em dead effect and have gotten a totally different reaction from totally different audiences. This is what he shows you. Some people are like 'Cool, now I'll be on my way' and others are more “Holy crap! What the #$%& did you just do? Show me that again, you rock, let me have your baby.” So in terms of reactions, I think this is top-notch stuff. Wilson also shows you multiple ways of presenting the trick and multiple out-liners for all the types of reactions the spectator will give you (Can you do this with my money?, etc) There is a gaff in this trick that you are required to make…No worries though, Wilson’s teaching on the making the gaff couldn’t be any better. The money you use to make the gaff will not go to waste either because of the way it’s constructed ($606.00 is a lot of money to cough up, if you choose to use hundreds). The gaff goes completely unnoticed in the routine…you show all the bills, front and back! 4 of the 5 bills are completely examinable and can actually be borrowed! The major question that everyone has about this is if it better than when being compared to Slow-Burn. Slow-Burn is the same effect as Hundy 500 but the bills change as you “wave” your hands over the bill (check out the demo at Penguin Magic). The gimmick in both routines is essentially the same but I think Hundy is a lot better, for many reasons. EVERY move of Hundy 500 is motivated. In Slow-Burn, immediately after the change, you have to fold the bills up and unfold them again (in order to hide the gimmick). Why would you fold the bills again to display them? It doesn't make sense, and causes a lot of suspicion. It has major discrepancies that will make your specs know something funny is going on your specs. "With a wave of my hand the bills change! Here let me show you after I finish folding them." As nice as Slow Burn looks, you wouldn't have been able to do that color change in all of the situations because of the angles. Wilson’s routine is made for real world situations, you can perform is with people ALL around you in any situation (as long as you have the gaff…duh). So the angles, the handling and motivation for the way the bills are handled (every small detail thought out) are the reasons I feel Hundy 500 is far superior. Final Score: 9.5/10 Making any gaff is annoying…

MagicChris, it's obvious you don't like Greg's trick, fine.
You also seem to have issue with the DVD... it seems to have "many flaws" which make it the "worst DVD" you've ever seen, but the only flaw you have singled out so far is that the people watching Greg don't believe the trick. Wow. If MagicChris could post a review like JoeKing did, that would be MUCH more helpful. When you say a product is THE WORST, it gives you more credibility if you can explain why. (Maybe Magic Makers have a new DVD coming out soon with their version of it.)

Comparing the 2 routines is like comparing the 100 dollar bill switch or money morph... As for slowburn not being angleproof, ive seen Sanders perform this live and he was surrounded... If you check out his other published material, all of it is real world material..

JoeKing, thanks for that detailed review.
I have not run into any angle problems with Slow Burn. I don't contrasting bills, however ( Argentina bill and U.S. ). I use $1 U.S. and change them into $20's because I like to pay cash for items using this effect and hand out my business card. Because there is no color dicrepency, there are no angle problems. While I'd prefer everyone to use an inferior method ( Hundy ) we are here to help each other, so I don't mind sharing tips that work in the real world.
