Does anyone have a review on this effect? I found it on http://www.elmwoodmagic.com. It does have one review listed on their web site, however, I'm looking for more than just one review to be better able to see if this effect is for me. Thank you!

Seems fairly obvious how this is made . . . I don't mean that it would be obvious to audiences, just that its construction seems obvious to one familiar with the square circle principle. Seems a bit . . . what, unnecessary? to me - perhaps a bit of "running without being chased." But I don't know for sure; don't have one, don't plan to get one.

I would like to second the request for a review. Would you replace a "regular" square circle with it?

Is it just me, am I missing something???
The mirror helps how exactly? Description from: http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=1250 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The magician displays a colorful cabinet to the audience along with a mirror and talks about how some people believe that magicians use mirrors in their magic. In this case it's true, however, the mirror is for the benefit of the audience. The performer places the mirror behind the cabinet and removes the outer box, showing it has circular openings in the front and back. He replaces the outer box and then displays the inner "square tube," showing it completely empty before replacing it back on the base. With a snap of the fingers the magician then reaches inside and produces a large amount of silks, flowers, live animals, etc.! Quality-made of solid wood pieces, colorfully painted and silkscreened. Measures 12 inches tall by 9 inches square with a 6.5 inch by 4 inch load chamber. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I agree with honus and Drs Res. The mirror does not enhance the effectiveness of the illusion. If you remove the inner container and the audience can see nothing inside the outer square, the mirror does not prove anything. Like you said, "Why run when not being chased."

Unlike a traditional Square Circle, the mirror approach allows you to create the illusion of seeing directly through the "empty" box. You can move your hands simultaneously pass the front and back, thus allowing the audience a clear view of an apparently empty box.
I should also point out that, in this model, lighting is not an issue....as can often be the case with the standard Square Circle. Best, Paul Richards |

Shoot, I missed the fact that there are holes in the front and back of the outer tube, my bad. I guess I really was missing something on my first couple of reads through the effect.

That kind of move always looked funny to me, even in my youth before I knew what was going on. Well, if I wanted to show you can see through the box, why would I need a mirror? Why not just look at the audience through the box from the back? How about shining a flashlight through the box from the back? Better yet, just let them see my body moving around behind the box as I am showing the other box empty. No offense Paul, just my thoughts here.

I missed the fact to the holes in the back also. The vendors description of the effect is not the most well put together like so many others. |
