I get a lot of people asking me, "What do I do if they name an ace?" Here is my solution:
Get one blank face card. On it write, "NOT AN ACE!" At the start of the routine explain that there is a card in your wallet. Do not say "PLAYING CARD". Say that there is only one thing that you will tell them about the card, and that it is "NOT AN ACE! Aces are too obvious. If I said, 'name a card' and you said 'The ace of spades' and I pulled the ace of spades from my wallet, you would assume that aces are common cards, so that is why it leaped to mind". Now, go through the routine, and if the spectator forgets or tries to screw with you, and they name an ace, casually open the wallet and take out that card (which I fold face in so that when it is removed all they see is a back design), remind them that you said the card was "NOT AN ACE". Then open the card and watch their jaws drop. |
