Hi All,
I have a new stand up monte routine that will be hitting the shops soon. It is called "The Big Ol' Monte" It is a routine that I have been doing for a couple of years. It comes with jumbo Monte cards, a clip for the second phase, written instructions/routine and a QuickTime video of the routine and explanation on a disk. Please feel free to contact me with any questions
Thank you,
John |

Hello , Mr. Zander this effect seems to be a good one but the video does no justice you have to see the cards . Try a new video with the cards only , just a thought .

John:
I like what you've done with the routine adapted to jumbo (bigger than jumbo?) cards. I was able to follow the routine just fine, plus, as you said, you can judge the audience's reactions. Your routine is definitely worthy of adding to a commercial stand-up act. Best wishes, Steve H
Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

Looks exactly like Ken Brooke's CHASE THE ACE... maybe a slight different handling. Had a hard time seeing the cards on your video.

The cards were unfortunately washed out on that video. The video that comes with the routine is a QuickTime file and the cards are very clear. The routine is first performed then explained.
I used the performance video on my web site to show the impact that the routine has on the audience. Maybe I should also load the performance section of the explanation video. Also if you viewed the video from my web site I did explain that the cards were hard to see on the video. But as the dealers start to use the video on their sites that explanation will not be included. Hi Pete, "Exactly"? I have never seen Ken Brooke's routine. Does he mark the card in the second phase and use only two cards in the third phase? Just to be clear, there are many, many Monte routines published and all were influenced by the others. But my routine is in no way a copy or rip off of any other. A lot of other routines that I have seen involve a lot of moves to accomplish the effect. There is basically one one move in my routine that is used in all three phases. And the "Sleight of Hand" routine and patter is to my knowledge original. If my routine and handling were "exactly" like the Brooke routine I would be shocked. But anything is possible, again there are a great many routines published.
Thank you,
John |

I have the Ken Brooks Chase the Ace and the handling is the same. So what makes this routine new? I have have this effect for about 5 years now. Yes Ken's version and instructions also use 2 cards in the 3rd routine.

I am wondering how you can say that the handling is the same when you do not know the handling on my routine?
What makes it new? The routine. The routine is engaging, interesting and funny. Also, I have seen routines where the "chased" card is marked but not in the second phase. The marking is usually the closing phase. Most of these routines are similar, otherwise they would not be monte routines. To be very clear here, I am not claiming that this Monte is a completely original one. I have never seen a monte routine that was. All routines evolve and are built on the backs of others. Mine does have an original routine and it also has easy simple, moves. Like all of my routines, it is designed to entertain your audience.
Thank you,

Gents,
I have known John for a long time. He puts a lot of thought and research into his effects. His stuff is commercial and it gets laughs. I have not yet been disapointed in any thing from Zander Magic. Phil

I second that. John is a first-rate guy and quite a gentleman who truly THINKS about his magic and how to better it as a whole. Great work here, John.

FYI, the video has just been updated with a clear view of the cards. You can see it at:
http://www.hocus-pocus.com/static/clips/bmontxe.rm It's a rather large file (15 MB), and apologies are in order for those on dial-up. John also has it on his web site. |
