Anyone know the recipe for a good strong bubble solution? One similar to the kind Losander uses that can land on Elastic Thread and not burst. He says you can make it, but he doesn't go into the details. You can order it from his website, but I prefer to make my own so I can always have it on hand.

I don't know if this will help or not but you can be the judge. These are recipes for making giant bubbles but there are links to other bubble recipe sites and will give you some item commonly used in making bubbles and I believe I remember one of the links discussing stronger bubble formulas.

Vito Lupo sold a really good bouncing bubble solution, and a Google search shows that Steve Spangler sells his own brand.
I have experimented with various ratios of Dawn, water, and glycerin. Some formulas worked really well. I've heard that hard water will cause bubbles to pop easier, so maybe you can experiment with various bottled and distilled waters, too.

I would start up with one cup Dawn, ten cups of rainwater or distilled water and 4 spoons of glycerine.
Then add more or less glycerine and dawn depending on the size you want and if they should be smoke filled. watch up for smoke machines strong/warm spots and the ventilation in the room they are real destroyers. you could also put up a humidity machine close to your workspace that will help Sorry I forgot to mention that glue for wallpaper can be added as an experiment in small dozes the same goes with olivoil that's some pro secrets where I don´t have any known formula. hope that will work |

While on topic, I have played with the idea of adding a mucilage-type glue to bubble solution in an attempt to make the bubbles that almost solidify. I came very close in those experiments, but was never completely satisfied. Is wallpaper glue a better answer? If so, are we talking about the powders or something else? Particular brands?
Olive oil is an interesting idea. I will be on that one, too. Wondering if this needs to be emulsified in some way, due to the likelyhood of separation. Shaking bubble solution has produced bad results. That was one problem I had with my experimental solutions when carrying it around in my pocket. The contant movement seemed to keep a good froth worked up. I've seen suggestions that there are differences between Dawn and Ultra Dawn... not sure myself, but I have experimented with other brands. Dawn seemed to give the best results.

Hi All,
I've played around with many different bubble solutions in the past 15 years. Some worked good others really sucked. I talked to Losander a little bit about his bubble solution this year and purchased a few bottles from him. This is by far the best bubble solution that I have ever used!!! It was engineered for enurance, and the ability to land on that special something without breaking. A small bottle also lasts a long time. Instead of trying out different formulas, and also finding out that the good dish soap for bubbles, is no longer on the market.(It's been replaced with the "Ultra" type which is no comparison.)I'd avoid all the headaches and frustration by buying some from Losander. After buying Losander's solution. I had instant success with certain things that I've been trying for years. Cheers, Mike

Hello,
Also besides glycerine, I've heard of people using Karol syrup with great success. Steave Spangler is a friend of mine & I have used his solution. It's good stuff. I hope this helps. Magically, John

Michael.
It´s the powder one, I will check what brand I used. When I use olive oil I heat it up together with the doubble amount of water, let it cool off... I tried Vito Lupos and some of the brands made of industrial for bubble machines, some are really expensive - most of them work good for small bubbles ( Toys-r-us even have ) But for medium and big bubbles I haven't found any really good solutions on the market - Mike have you tried Losanders for the bigger bubbles and workings? |

Stateside, you can get Losander's solution via http://www.hocus-pocus.com - great service, and they have frequent sales (sometimes 25% off) if you join the free member mailing list.
Losander's solution is great, even for large bubbles, and with careful handling with 'IT', you can do some neat things. His Art of Levitation DVD is great for his unique tips on this, btw. ... On another bubble note, I recently picked up some stuff at Walmart called 'plastic bubble'. It's a thick gooey clear gel-like thing, but when you blow it, it looks like you're blowing regular bubbles. Same sheen, floating behavior, and iridescent colors. But the neat thing is that after a few seconds, it 'hardens up', so that you could catch it on one finger and it won't pop. It'll retain the shape. And it has supreme longetivity, like on the order of minutes, if you keep it afloat. The only downside is that big bubbles tend to pop after a few seconds; I think the lifespan for these bigger bubbles (beyond ~3" in dia) could be lengthened with better technique, but haven't played around with it enough. And a tube of it is only about 2 bucks. It's great. Let's see if we can make some interesting effects with this! |

Jeff McBride's wife was blowing bubbles at the Winter Carnival and the bubbles being used could land on hands without any gloves. Kids could hold them for 5-10 seconds. I have Vito Lupos solution and his video explaining how to make it but you have to have gloves or it can land on your shirt. Where or how can I get the bubbles that can land on the palm of your hand without immediately bursting?
