This is a new manuscript by none other than Andrew Mayne. What if you walked into a town with only a couple of twenties in your pocket and just the shirt on your back. How much would it cost and how long would it take to create your own illusion show? With his new manuscript you can create an entire illusion show from scratch and using only one assistant. It's a guide to 5 illusions that cost little or no money and can be put together in a short amount of time. The effects can be performed individually or as an entire show. Here is the five illusions. 1 Arrival; the magician appears on an empty stage, 2 Passage; the magician steps through a spectator, 3 Teleportation; the magician vanishes, 4 Ghost; a handkerchief is caused to dance, and 5 The Escapist; the magician makes his exit. It's 40 pages fully illustrated. I will be giving a full review of this manuscript when I get it. I should have it in my hands in the next 2 or 3 days. That's all for now.

Please give us a review when you've checked it out. I have many of AM's stuff and have never been dissappointed.

I recieved it finally this afternoon. All I can say is that it is worth the 11.95. Some of the illusions in the book are new but most are different variations of some of his previous attempts. If someone is new to magic then this is great for them. Being involved with magic now for 22 years, it is to me a nice little gem. I did have higher expectations of this, but I'm not entirely disappointed. If I went to another city and I didn't have anything with me and I had about 50 bucks, I could put on a show of this type. It also gets your creative mind flowing with ideas just like a lot of his other material. I have to say that the 2 favorites that I have are The Escapist and Passage. I think Passage is my favorite as you walk through a spectator. The Escapist is a sub-trunk type of illusion without a trunk. I give the manuscript an 8 out of 10 just for the fact that this is meant to be for the occasion where you don't have anything to put on a show and turn it into something that plays great for lay audiences. If anyone wants more info just let me know.

Hi Dan,
Can you tell me the contents of the book. ie. What all it has in it. That wud be helpful. I have his illusion book and solo x. Do you think this will be good for me ? Also have you read body morphin ? |

As far as body morphin I wouldn't know. I don't have it but I've heard it's OK.If you are new to illusions this is a good manuscript. If not it's still a good read as it gets you thinking and it's only $11.95. I will have to post a couple of the illusions here and then post again as they are a little long. Here's the names and the effect. Arrival: The stage is completely empty with the exception of a crumpled cloth in the middle of the stage. Two assistants, or one if the cloth has a dowel in it, walk on stage and pick up either end of the cloth. It's immediately pulled away and there stands the magician. Passage: A spectator is invited to the stage. The magician explains to the audience that the newest, most fashionable theory in physics says that matter is mostly just empty space, on one level it's all just energy. The identity of two separate objects has more to do with probability than with any solid physical law. The only thing keeping one object from passing through another is statistics. He informs the audience that magicians are excellent at defying the odds. The spectator is asked to put on a blindfold to keep them from being distracted. They are next asked to raise their hands in the air above their head. The magician steps behind the spectator and reaches around with a large cloth. The magician is esentially encircling the spectator with his arms and the cloth. The cloth is raised up, but not above the spectator's hands. It's immediately lowered and the magician is now standing in front of the spectator, having apparently passed straight through their body.

Teleportation: After finishing an effect in the middle of the stage, the magician runs to the edge and grabs a large cloth and brings it back to center stage. The magician raises his hand from behind the cloth and counts backwards from five with his fingers to the pulse of the music. As soon as he hits one, the lights blackout and the magician instantly appears in the middle of the audience illuminated by a flashlight.
Ghost: The magician hands a handkerchief to a spectator in the audience to examine. The magician takes the handkerchief back from the spectator and returns to the stage. He ties a knot in the top of the handkerchief and lays it flat on his hand. The handkerchief begins to stir. The magician motions and the handkerchief jumps to life. It darts to the floor and begins to jump about. The magician snaps his fingers and the handkerchief jumps into the air. The magician catches the handkerchief and it falls limp. He unties the knot and tosses the handkerchief to the audience.

And last, The Escapist: The magician has a volunteer join him on stage. The volunteer is asked to wrap the magician's hands in chains and lock them. The magician then steps into a bag. The bag is lifted around the magician and closed shut with a chain that is sewn into the top of the bag. The spectator returns to his seat. The magician's assistant raises a curtain around the bag. The curtain is immediately lowered and the magician is standing where the assistant was previously standing. The curtain is dropped so the bag is visible. The assistant is now inside the bag. The magician unlocks the bag and releases his assistant.

Hi Dan,
Thanks so much for the details and the effort. So is the walking thru a person thing the same principle as the A Frame ? |
TricksDaniel Loyal user Pensacola,FL 248 Posts |
Rch129, I'm not sure if you can buy it at his website as I have not been there in a while. You can contact Andrew Mayne and I'm sure he will let you but a copy. The last I checked you could go to http://www.weirdthings.com/secret.htm . That it where I got it when he sent the information to me. Plainman007, What do you mean by A Frame? PM me as I would rather not post this on the open forum. We don't need secrets being exposed. Thanks.

Do all of these effects need to be done on stage? Could any of them be done in a parlor setting, such as a living room?

They are mainly for the stage but two of them could be done in a parlor type setting.

Is the illusion of walking through a spectator capable of being performed in a parlor setting?
Thanks, Craig |
TricksDaniel Loyal user Pensacola,FL 248 Posts |
Yes, as far as street goes. One but possibly two if the setting was right. And yes, also that the walking through the spectator could be done in a parlor setting if you have something behind you and watch your angles. You could also make the sheet frame differently so you wouldn't have to worry about the angles.
