I am interested in this but the price is a little steep. is it worth it, and does it play well.

There are better ways to do 'mind reading" effects with a regular deck of cards. Docc Hilford has some greta work on this subject.
I don't think the Kennedy effect is worth the time or money.

We use it all the time in our stage show. It kills.
A friend also uses it constantly in close up/walkaround. It's a very clever idea and the cost is justified once you see the work in the deck.

I agree with Tim.
The advantage over the decks of similer nature(won't mention, but try a search) is a very key one, that many will dismiss. You can patter about how each and every card is different and that can be seen by an audience member, right up until you have them just think of a card. If you want to be *really* devious, apply the Mind Power Deck to Osterlind's Radar Deck principle, you have a really really really powerful mentalism tool. |

I've seen many a magician/mentalist use this in performance, and it always amazes and "kills" the audience...

Do NOT use this in a close up magic set. Sell it as true mind reading. Use bicycle cards on the front and back. This is the strongest effect I have ever performed. It is worth every cent. I am on my third deck. I use it after a close up magic set. If your spectators ask for more go say you are finished with the magic, but go into a conversation on how you are working on thought projection and ask if they would like to experiment with it.
General Patter "After several years work I am now sucessful reading a mind image some of the time. We will use a deck of cards because you have 52 objects in a compact space. We will use 3 of you to chose an image and hopefully I can hit on one or two. You have to work with me and not cross me up." I spread the cards during this time and casually run my finger over them as I state the 52 objects line. "I am going to close the deck and I want you to clear your mind. When I spread the deck, glance at the first card you see and then turn you head away so I have no idea of which part of the spread you were looking at." Close deck, put it back in you case and then KILL them. I have performed this for groups of well educated professionals and had them discussing this amoung themselves the rest of the evening.

Considering that Derren Brown uses and discusses it directly in "Devils Picture Book" I don't think it is too bad!!!
It's a LOT of trick and deck for the money and is a laser guided direct hit with cards. Many of us do not have the time to develope a totally "purest" mentalism / card routine and must rely on gaffed or semi-gaffed tricks and utilities. If you want to do this (and there is NO shame in it...the best of the best do) Mindpower is a quality one to go with. As usual, a confident and natural approach will add real horsepower to the effect.

Do it with two people...tell one to think of any red card, the other any black card so they don't "accidentally" think of the same card. That eliminates one part of the "work," already and it appears like real mind reading and not a card trick.
Expensive? How much do you want for your money? We're not talking the $100 PSI-Deck here. I thought it was reasonable, even cheap. It is a GREAT effect. |

I'm not sure why someone says it's expensive? I thought I paid around $25.00?
Neil Lester will make up an MP deck in bike back. I believe Palmbeachguy uses one. If I remember correctly it was over $100.00 for the custom bike back. IMO this is a killer deck. |

Here is my added subtlety that gives it even more imact: As I name the thought-of cards in the face-up spread that shows all 52 different faces, I slide the card out completely from the spread exposing the entire face of the card! I have observed that many who use the MD do not realize that the chosen cards that can be viewed from the normal spread are in fact themselves ordinary cards. So they can be entirely exposed! It's a subtle move, but it does make for a stronger impression. Think about it and try it for yourself. :) |

This is a good one. Use a bicycle as the back. You can do this on stage or close-up. I use it even when walk-around. You show all the cards, then riffle slowly for a mental selection and then reveal the card. I love it and I use it.

Myster, I checked with Neil and he responded: "No, I do not make up the 'Mindpower deck."
I make the 'Monte Cristo' deck. The MindPower deck has some other things added. My deck is simply a full deck of 3/S. BUT, one end, when fanned, shows a full deck of cards. (I will soon have them in 3/H as well.) They are $47.50 per deck. + shipping." Are you sure that was the source for the bicycle backed MindPower deck? Yours in Magic Scot |

I believe he made it up as a custom order.
While he might not make you "A MindPower Deck", You can definatly ask him for 52(or 48, forget how many the MPD comes with) of the specialty gaffs. That would figure in with the price of about $2 per gaffed card, 50+ cards..... |

Interesting I got the same reply"I don't make the mindpower deck.
Could be he does'nt want to infringe on the creators rights to the effect. Not sure. Maybe Palmbeachguy could give us an answer. I just emailed cardsbymartin last night and got the same reply. |

Guys,
I just spoke with Neil on the phone. You were confusing him with the Mindpower name as he makes no such deck with that name. After I reminded him of the job he did for me, he now remembers it as "oh yeah, THAT job." What you have to do is first send him a Mindpower deck! Then he will split all the cards and attach Bicycle backs. For all that work, he gets some big bucks! I got a break because I was the first one to ask him to do it! After doing one, he realized it was a LOT more work than he originally quoted me. So you will have to pay a LOT more than I did if you want him to make one of these gems for you. Good luck! |

Just a blatant plug here.
After using the Mindpower deck for a couple of years it became such a strong effect that I searched for ways to get a bicycle version. I also contacted Neil Lester about two years ago and I got the exact story as PBG mentioned above. Since a couple of months I do have my bicycle Mindpower deck. It is made from scratch by an very clever magician and friend of mine here in Holland. It costs a small fortune, but considering the really incredible amount of work that goes in and the insane reactions it gets by my audience it is worth it's weight in gold if you are a working professional. I have no idea if he is willing to make more. Also IF he would, that would only be after a buyer has proved that he owns the original Kennedy version. But I just wanted to let you know it can be done. Only those with a serious interest can pm me and I can bring you in contact with him, and that's all I can do. Dan LeFay
