Nicholas,
It sounds strange and unbelieveable but have you tried charity book shops. Some of the books I have on card magic I actually purchased at Charity book shops and book fares. The price paid was a fraction of the original cost. You will usually find the books under interests and hobbies. Look hard though and if you don't see anything ask as they may be able to advise you or as was the case for me, I was informed that the seller had items at home but didn't think anyone would be interested. |

Hello:
Don't overlook the local library! When I was just about 13 I checked every book ours had in both the children's and the Adult section. This came to a surprising 40 or so volumes! This is a superb resource and well worth looking into. Best, Brad Burt http://www.magicshop.com

Brad, you're making a habit of being right. When I was about 8 yrs old,I found books like Eldin's 'The Magic Handbook' in the children's section and RRTCM as well as Magic as a Hobby(Bruce Elliot) and Expert Card Technique in the adult section.Excellent books.

I would not recommend you to make your first steps into magic through http://www.ellusionist.com, or http://www.penguinmagic.com, just go to library and get yourself something like: "Royal Road To Card Magic" etc. Stuff, where you really can learn something great

I'll second what everyone else has said about the library. I'm fortunate because even though I live in a small town of about 10,000, our local library must have 50-60 books on magic, including some of the best of the classics.
One reason is because a member of the local IBM Ring (yes, we have one) passed away several years ago and his family donated most of his magic book collection to our local library. So, be sure check out your local library, you may be surprized by what you find there. Bill Beach |

Still with library.
Try going to the library of Theatrical Arts in your place. Here in the Philippines we have the Tarbell books, etc. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines library. |

I found Card Control and a couple books on the general ideals of magic. Very helpful if I should say. Also, don't forget to check the Special Collections in your library. Sometimes, actually most times, some of the most valuable books are held in the Special Collections area. Unfortunately, those are books you can't take home.
