Are the baseballs worth it?

Hmmm....lets see.....$25 over very conservatively 5 years of use amounts to $5 a year to have a nice prop. Less than a deck of Bikes in some countries.
If you want miniature baseballs and you'll actually use them in performance then I'd say $25 is peanuts in the long run. |

The baseballs are well worth it.
I have used mine for 10 years! Joe riser has an interesting set of leather balls on his website that you should check out as well. They have a unque shape! http://www.jamesriser.com/Magic/LeatherBalls/Info.html |

Joe Riser? Is that Jim Riser's lesser known brother? Okay, before I get heat, I'm just kidding. I'm sure Tophie meant Jim Riser.
I think the Mike Rogers' baseballs are very nice and really great if you use the big load baseballs, too. The little leather balls from Riser are also exceptional and, as I understand it, were meant for street workers as the shape doesn't permit them to roll off a tilted table. Very good idea. |

I think the balls are excellent and incredibly well made! Only five years!? Are you kidding!? These balls should last a lifetime! I use the chop balls in a chop cup daily.
The props are the trademark of a professional. If you are working then the cost of these items is miniscule. If you are an amateur then I would recommend crochetted balls which are more cost effective. By the way, I just won a set of three Mike Rogers final load baseballs on Ebay for $29.50! What a steal! |

Mike made me a number of sets "inside out" ie: the inner side is like suede and has a nice rough texture. As far as final loads, my FEELING is that lemons and/or potatos are the best as a CHANGE is what makes it stronger.
Nothing wrong with baseballs for final loads, but my personal way is to have a major change.

Pete, I agree with your completely. While Mike's small baseballs are terrific for the C&B, there is nothing like producing a lemon, a potato and an onion. Producing a regular sized baseball just does not have the same dramatic impact and the same stunning quality as fruit and vegetables. And they are a good source of vitamins and minerals.

I love fruits and vegetables as much as large baseballs as well! I typically produce Ammar's fruit from my Johnson Chop Cup and it makes the crowds go wild!

Ammar's fruit? Is it similar to Dole Pineapple?

I agree that the load being "off the wall" gets a better response.....
However, Paul Gertner makes a hell of a response with the ball berring final loads. Brent Sherwood has new balls crocheted with either gold or silver thread. Check it out at sherwoodmagic.com. |

Sorry....
I just went to Sherwood Magic's website and the balls are not there, but they are advertised in this month's Genii |

Mike also made his mini-baseballs gimmicked for chop cups. Anyone know a current source for these?

These are no longer available; however, some high quality chop leather baseballs in various colors can be found at http://www.jedinat-zaubershop.de/ along with some very unique Chop Cups and Cups and Balls.

To illustrate this I would say that the difference between the mini baseballs and the red knitted balls is comparable to aluminum versus copper cups. The extra weight makes the moves so much easier. I just tried out the Williamson Striking Vanish and it never looked so good. I´m very pleased. For those seeking an opinion, for what it´s worth, I add my support and praise for the Mike Rogers Mini Baseballs. José.

G'day all,
I am in Australia and I have started Sewing my own Mini Baseballs. Here is my Site with images and prices. http://www.simplymagic.com.au/minibaseballs.htm I use Vynil as it is more durable and it's much better to keep cleen by wiping. I have verious ball colors and stitching colors. The Aussie boy who beta tested them convinced me that there was no need for leather PM me if you need any more info. Enjoy. Michael |

Those look great Michael!
That being said, I just ordered a set of Mike Roger's mini's from Ammar. I can't wait to get my hands on them.

The quality of the Mike Rogers baseballs seems to be very variable. I have several sets of the Jedinat balls in different colors. They are very consistent. The price is reasonable, too. You can also get chop cup balls in this type.
The van Dokkum balls are the best, but they are quite expensive.
