What's "flair" bartending?

Actually, let me take a wild guess. It's probably like bartending with flair. Sounds interesting.

Is what they did in "Cyote Ugly" refered to as Flair bartending? Tossing the bottles and catching them and many other flourishes while dealing with the customer?

Yes that's the stuff. I'm not that good though. But I do dance on the bar.

WOW pam! I'm a big fan of flair and magic and find it cool that you actually dance doing it (can't do it yet... it's hard to keep up with the flow in rythm) but where do you actually learn it?
here in marseille, a couple guys tought me the basic but I hardly found materials (book/ vids) to work with... So the best I've done so far was trying and trying the moves I've seen. And whenever I have a pint/glass/bottle I just try to make it spin around my hand, arm back and so one... practice is the key. Knowing to juggle with knives also helped a lot for the balance... Where's your bar? maybe one day... feel free to pm Bilboquet is a good source also when fooling around with cocktails!

Hi another Flairer eh? Yea I've been doing this for about 5 years! I now only do it for corporate type stuff. It's easier work and there's no break down to worry about.
If you're aworking bartender, get those cocktails down first, then play with the flair. Also don't get caught up in flairing hard whilst serving drinks. The punters don't like it. Get some good working flair and you'll make a packet. Then get some great competition flair and you'll win a packet!!!! PM me if you fancy some flair chat. Ros

Gotta love those french guys Yeah, I know what you mean... gotta love the French guys, especially the French magician guys. Pam-- It's so nice to finally see another girl in here... for a long time it was just me and Anabelle! You should check out the three street flair video of Michael DuBois at http://www.threestreet.com. Angela |

Well well well!... What can I say??? Have I been outpast by reputation? Kinda like it I must admit... But I'm not all french I must say, only half of it... kind of a cocktail myself (it's all shakin') as I'm part vietnamese and italian... So... I guess I won't fully fit in that "typical french" type of (gentle?)man (which are fewer and fewer I must admit...) Still, I'll confess : I'm sure glad the café has two trully charming Demoiselle!!! Hopin' not to finish with a , Ludovic is good for you!

Awww... charmant des filles ? Remercie Ludovic ! J'ai trouvé que les hommes français sont en général juste si doux. Haha... ce message le prouve, je pense.

Flaring is a lot of fun, but it's hard!
Take a wild guess about how many hours the world champion Mr. Delpech have been practicing... Watch this: http://www.barproducts.com/media/wmvdelpech2intro.htm -e-
...As long as i`m not a world-champion at anything, the great reactions of doin` magic will do just fine.....

Say,
I don't really know anything that isn't hard... Even if you're more skilled than another one for certain things, it doesn't keep you away from practicing if you REALLY want to get the best pesonnal reward... As in magic, it's only when you "control" the trick, when you can fully understand its mechanism that you can get the most out of it and even create new routines/handlings... I know, practice makes perfect, nobody's perfect so why bother... Still... Flair's great to my opinion, and it true it's hell to practice if you're totally new to juggling or contact ball. Still, if you like bars or work behind one, you usually have some spare time between hours and are accustomed to the feeling of shakers, jiggernaut, glasses, bottles and stuff... magic's everywhere! There's a few sites I found on the topic (google). As love bar ambiance, I always try to "sneak in" or just get behind everybar I get in... Magic, flair, and a huge smile is a great ticket. I wonder if you can flair with the disapearing bottles??? Guess it would be too light? http://www.webtender.com/index/Bartending/Flair and http://www.miss-charming.com/bartender/flairbartend.htm Are GREAT site with lotta links http://www.flairbartending.co.uk for brits and of course http://www.barflair.org/faq.cfm Felicitation Angela!!! Je vois que tu n'as rien oublié de tes lessons! Haaaaa ces légendaires français si charmants! Tu me ferais presque rougir... Mais attention au petit diable qui sommeil en moi!!! ... Ludwig
