Hi all,
I'm currently writing an essay comparing the art of magic to the other art forms, focusing mainly on sculpture, video and performance art. I am looking at the values and aims of all forms of art and comparing them, with regard to the development of magic throughout history and its parrallels in the other art forms. I'm also comparing the way magic reacts with those viewing it, with the same in the other arts psychologically, spiritually and intellectualy. I would greatly appreciate any insights on this subject that any of you have to offer.. thankyou much, from Jack |

While magic was recognized as a performing art prior to the book "Our Magic", it is still considered the seminal work on this topic. The authors, Maskelyne and Devant, had a somewhat narrower definition of art than what might be considered art today, but they define "magic", the importance of originality, and the general classifications of magical effects.

Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

I think that magic, for us, is a skill thing, but to the audience, is showing something impossible, contrary to sculpture, which is just showing your creativity and skill. I think that is one main difference between magic and other arts, magic doesn't demonstrate skill, if it requires a lot of it.

I did not know you are a plural consciousness. Do you usually refer to your other selves in the second or third person?
