I Received this mail
I just wanted to let you know that if you haven't yet read the Station Manager Document, now is the time. In response to numerous requests from professional mentalists, I will be raising the price to $100 to keep it out of the hands of the curious. THE PRICE OF THE MANUSCRIPT WILL BE RAISED TO $100 ON OCTOBER 31st, 2004 AT MIDNIGHT. Regards Cornelius |

You have got to be joking me, from other threads on this site my impression is that professional mentalists are laughing at the stationmaster.

Will you take monopoly money? It's just like real money, only smaller. I'll even give you an extra $10,000 and a deed for Park Place.

I know everyone seems to hate this, but I gotta admit, I actually like it.
I used the effect a few days ago, to great success. Am I alone here?

Alan,
The effect isn't a bad one, it is what surrounded it that was the problem. Regards, Richard |

So a guy walks into a store, says how much for that tie. The owner says $750,000. The guy says "That's ridiculous, what kind of way is that to run a business?" "Well," replies the owner, "I only have to sell one to be set for life."

I think those slamming it either haven't performed it, or more likely have a problem with some of the atheist slamming Steve Fearson does in the manuscript because the effect is awesome. There are no bows taken.. no TAH DAH! But I suspect any serious mentalist will tell you the routine is the real work. Could it be done by a kid, or anyone wearing a clown suit? NO WAY. This is for serious performers. I suspect many of the people making negative comments on this board are in fact kids and I can see several are wearing clown suits. It is definitely not your typical magic trick. I also enjoyed the series of emails pitching the trick. By far the most entertaining promotional concept I've seen in magic. Dr Magic PS.. I have nothing against clowns. Kids on the other hand spread germs and are loud. |

I thought the email campaign was a lousy marketing gimmick. It was certainly a world-class turn-off for me. I have no opinion on the trick itself, having never performed it or seen it performed.
Whatever the merits or otherwise of the effect, Fearson's price-hike (which may, of course, be just another hoax) could do wonders for a certain UK eBay seller, currently offering 99 copies of Station Manager at a "Buy It Now" price of £1.99! Not wishing to jump to any conclusions, but I don't remember anyone saying that Fearson was offering re-sale rights on this. Perhaps a quick email to eBay might be in order... Cy. |

Jim had a high end Piercing Clinic in West Hollywood, right on the Beverly Hills junction e.g. it was prime retail real estate! One year he went to a major gem & mineral show and found some interesting amathist figurines (I'll not go into specifics, let's just say they represented a portion of the human anatomy.) The man selling them said he'd made over 100 of them back in the early 70s but could never sell them for more than $5.00 each. He had roughly 60 of them left over so Jim offered him $3.00 each for the lot. A week later they were set on display in Jim's store with a price tag of over $100.00 each... within a month, he'd sold out! The moral of this story is that YES people will willingly cough up the cash if you know who and how to cater to them. Location and class has a great deal to do with it. And there are in fact neck ties that have sold for over a million dollars here in the states... granted, they were handpainted by Pecaso, but the market is there! As to the Station Manager... well, to put it kindly, it's a rip-off! The same basic method can be found in Corinda... you know, that silly "beginners" book for those interested in Mentalism. There are also superior methods to doing more or less the same thing, that are far more clean. (HINT: Get Busch's "Peek Performances" and go from there!) For the NOVICE this is a great bit of improv and I'll leave it at that. As has been said however, the paranoia and general horse pucky woven into the manuscript is the primary reason why it has come to know a great deal of fertilizer from within the craft. Therefore, if your a MAGICIAN looking for a neat trick... this is perfect! If you're a serious student of MENTALISM, stay away from it! It's just that simple! |

I'm looking for this bit in Corinda's steps to mentalism for days now and see nothing like it.
Any chance I could get a page number? Anyone have any info? Thanks! Dr Magic  |
