Can anyone tell me the difference between mentalism and hypnosis?

In mentalism, you as the entertainer seeminly know information obtained from outside the scope of the normal 5 senses.
In hypnosis, you place 'sujects' into a 'hypnotic state' of consciousness. Kind of like a trance or deep sleep state. And while in this state, you control their actions and behaviors. Often with humorous results. But their is nothing supernatural or psychic about it. Chad |

The difference for many is that with hypnosis, the participants voluntarily are put into a sleepy state, with many that attempt to perform mentalism, the audience is unwillingly put to sleep.

Mentalism is a state of mind. Hypnosis is a mindless state.
