Ok,guys here is a new idea. Suppose you want to make the routine a bit longer so that it is not a one time shot. Start with the odd colored bead in position as in photo #5 of the instructions. Tie the two ends of the cords around this bead. In other words the bead is now in postiton for the penetration. String the other two beads on either side of the first bead. The spectator is shown three beads on two cords and is asked to put one of his hands palm up. You ask him/her to close their hand around the beads. Once their hand is closed you ask them to think of one of the colored beads. While they are deciding which color they want you pull on the ends of the cords, which releases the center bead. Suppose the center bead is a black bead and they call out that color, when they open their hand the black bead has penetrated.
Suppose they call out red and the black one comes off. Two things can happen here. They will say nothing and be amazed at the penetration or they will say "Hey, the color that came off was not the correct color. This is perfect because you can follow up as in the original instructions and finish with all three beads penetrating. The line here is "This time I promise that the color you are thinking of will come off." You have a great follow up to the first effect and to make it stronger you have a double penetration. Of course the final line is "I didn't want to take any chances." Try it you may like it. Dean Dill |

My Nana's Necklace was delivered yesterday. (excellent shipping time! Thanks Dean)
I resisted the temptation to investigate the props (something we all enjoy doing as soon as the "new magic" arrives) and I read through the instructions which include clear step-by-step photos. While there were no surprises as to the physical workings of this vintage effect, by handling the props you immediately sense both it's quality and potential. Dean has thought through the details and delivers a "simple, in-their-hands miracle" you'll definitely use in real-world performance. (I appreciated the fact that the spectator can actually help you thread the beads back on the cords before the magic takes place) Plus the prop elements allow for customizing the "message" or patter you use in various venues. Couple the enclosed instructions with the tips Dean has provided in this forum and you'll have an effect that has the potential of looking like real magic. Thanks for an excellent piece of magic Dean. This is one I'll use regularly. |

I'm enjoying Nana's Necklace. I'm still tinkering with the presentation. I think that rather than the magician pulling the cords through the spectator's hand, I would like to have the spectator pulling the beads down through the cords.
I realize this is a very slight change. I'm hoping, though, that it shifts the performer of the magic from the magician to the spectator. Now its not the magician performing the action but the spectator. I would set this up by earlier attempting the same feat. This will allow the spectator to hold the cords (selling to them that they are normal) and allow me to show them what is expected of them. Of course I will fail, but "Solid through solid penetrations aren't my superhero power, maybe its yours?"

Has anyone considered using heat-shrink tubing (or some other idea) on the ends of the cords to allow quick and easy insertion? Kind of like shoe laces, so there's no fumbing around.

Incidently, here's my routine:
When I put the beads on, I initially leave them separated by about 2 inches in between each. "Let's talk in absolutes for a moment . . . I'll give you three. Absolute #1, there are 3 beads. Can't argue with that, right? #2, there are two cords. Agreed? And #3, the 2 cords are running THROUGH the 3 beads. Agreed?" Now, I slide the 3 beads together after they've had a visual of both cords running thru the 3 beads, as I ask the spec to hold their hand out. After tying the cord around specs hand, I stop, step back, take a look, pause still, then reach up and grab the cords, do the deal as I say (with a twinkle in the eye): "In OUR world, there ARE no absolutes!" By the way, I do not do the end move quickly. Even slowed down a bit, their eyes cannot fathom. This is the most fun I've had since Blizzard and Dean's Box. (Dean, I hope you enjoyed the Bermuda Triangle story I sent you through Dan the Animal Man a few weeks ago). |

Wow, judging from all the positive reviews, I'm going to get myself one. My only thing is that it's a little overpriced. However, I'm also reminding myself that it's the thought process and ideas that put into this magic that counts. Nonetheless, with 30 bucks, it's not affordable. Maybe the intent is to not let it become a "household item" that every magician can show to the world. I don't know. I see a lot of folks dislike Sankey's products. But they are relatively inexpensive, practical, in-your-face, and commerical. I certainly praise Jay for thinking about the little guy/gal when he creates his magic for the rest of us. Just my two cents...

I'll be saving up my money for the next several months so that I'll be able to afford this item. I hope that by this time next year to have one. I'll let you know...

Gee, $30 for magic is downright cheap. . . You are kidding, right?!?!?!?
Ok, even if you're not, this is $30 well worth spending. It's turned a great trick that I only did once in a great while because of the set up, to a great trick that I carry with me and do all the time. Mark

Yeah, $30 is great. Funny, I was just thinking that I was so gald that Dean was producing this because I could really picture someone else packaging this with a DVD and selling it at $150 to "keep it out of the hands of the merely curious."
I'll be ordering this soon and will be thrilled to have it along side two of my other favorites: Dean's box and Blizzard. Thanks Dean. There should be more in magic like you. |

Finally saw a demo of this at the monthly meeting, had to laugh, wow it is the ssame as I have been doing for several years,as part of a routine, starting with 2 beeds, and one cord, have a spectator stread both beads on the cord, put them in your hand ask which ione they want to penetrate, cross the cord over the back of the hand, viola it is done, say I will make it harder, use 2 cords, thread them through both beedsm, spectator holds, you know the finish, I made this as I said several years ago from goodies I bought ar radio shack for less than 2 bucks, love it

Hey Actorscotty,
The concept for this trick is old, and there's even a plastic version using shoe laces and a bead that's been around for ages. However, Mr. Dill has taken the concept of this trick (which has been around for hundreds of years) and brought it into the 21st century. There's an extra little something that makes this a real "worker" which allow an instant set up right in front of the spectator's nose. The props are first rate. I was trying to offer a friendly bit of sarcasm in an earlier post about saving up to purchase this routine. I've actually had "Nana's Necklace" for some time now, and it has gotten nothing but great reactions. Thirty bucks for a professional piece of magic which one will use in the real world is a pittance. I guess that since YOU independently came up with the idea on your own, you'd be justified in using your own props. But I think that EVERYONE ELSE should do the right thing and purchase the trick from the originator, even if you're able to figure out how to make it out of stuff you buy at the local market. |

After reading this thread I just ordered this from Dean and got it pretty quickly. I just have to add that I am also very pleased with it - it's a great idea, not that hard to do (although I'm not smooth enough with it to do it in public yet, but soon!) and it'll add something new to my restaurant act that's not another card trick. I'm VERY pleased with this.

After reading all the posts...I am still thinking... hum...
AM I MISSING SOMETHING? For me, this Nana's trick is as same as the one we all know, the effect is the same, but only the method is different? Am I wrong?
Don't just dream, stay awake and action!
