David, good catch! Now I remember seeing this in Klause's lecture at the WMS in 2002.

One question... is there (there must be) a difference between the elbow coin vanish where you "rub/melt" the coin in your arm or the elbow catch?

The former uses one coin and your neck, the latter uses multiple coins and doesn't use your neck.

Thanks a lot Larry & David
Ok... I don't know how to say that... Larry, do you actually perform the trick? 'cause I tryibg to guess how he done it and think I figured out ... I had a flash when trying to recall... So could I PM you David or someone my thought , as I don't really like dvds (more into books!) I certainly don't want anyone to tell me as I like to figure it myself (partly what I like about magic...)AND I don't want exposure (i'm not really good at knowing where the line is...) Thing is I'm SURE the noise was right where it was supposed to be so there gotta be only one solution... gotta confess to see if I could be right!

Wow! This has been driving me crazy all day long. I knew I had it in print somewhere here because I learned it by reading it at some point in time. I finally found it. It is in Jerry Mentzer's "Close-Up Cavalcade Finale" from 1977. The effect "Elbow Swindle" by Roger Klause is on page 23. Now I can sleep tonight.

Mitch, the Cavalcade series contains some good magic. There's a sandwich effect in one of the volumes that kills.

So I gotta question: can I actually make the coins reappear almost anywhere or it HAS to be in the heart pocket? I think I'm close... at least part of it works...

Looks like I was mistaken. Here's a portion of Roger's reply to my email that included, among other things, a question of the originator of the effect.
Quote:
My friend and mentor Chuck Smith is the brains behind I vaguely recall Cornelius doing the effect at a lecture years ago but I don't remember the method. Since I've seen Roger do it and teach it a number of times since then I always assumed they were the same method and Roger was the originator. Looks like I was wrong on both counts. I wonder how the Cornelius vanish differs? Roger didn't go into detail about the method. Dave |

Dave,
the Cornelius method was published (I won't say where, let it drive Mitch crazy) and the difference is that John's vanish requires some minimal preparation, and although the vanish will fool magicians, there's no noise, and you're not exactly clean. The Cornelius version replicates the actions of the familiar stunt more closely. If you do the Smith/Klause routine, you know what I mean.

I remember it now, I saw him do it at a lecture years ago. Thanks for the jog to my memory, Curtis. Now I know why it didn't stick in my memory. I think the Klause method is much more practical.
